We make things really complicated in this world. I mean REALLY complicated. It’s drama, it’s secrets, it’s lies, and everything in between.

Recently, one of my oldest friends sent me an image with the following statements on it. I’d like to expound a bit upon them and explain how dramatically we actually end up manipulating them.

  1. Missing somebody? Call.

Just this past week, I’ve realized the incredible power of letter writing and text messaging.

My great grandmother is someone who I greatly admire but don’t get to see often. I fixed this by writing a letter.

When you’re missing somebody, send them a message — don’t be afraid to say hey.

  1. Wanna meet up? Invite.
Want to get together with someone? Send them a message, find a time, meet together. It’s really that simple.

Your initiative will pay off.

  1. Wanna be understood? Explain.
Recently, I found myself getting into an argument with my aunt about the dramatics of television. Long story.

Anyways, I felt misunderstood and that she ended the conversation before I had a chance to respond. I caught her attention and explained myself further.

I felt better. When you feel misunderstood by your parents, your friends, your teacher — respect yourself, and them, and explain.

  1. Have questions? Ask.
Please ask more questions. Information is out there, you just have to ask.

  2. Don’t like something? Say it.
Yes, be polite, but don’t do something you absolutely despise — especially when the other person thinks you’re enjoying it.

It’s okay to express when you’re uncomfortable or bored, just be loving about it.

  1. Want something? Ask for it.
Knock and the door shall be opened. When you want something, and it’s appropriate to ask, do it.

  2. Love someone? Tell it.
Just tell them. We undervalue this way too much.

Don’t make life too complicated.
