I've been looking around for some new music to like and since I'm somewhat of a modern day Viking I began delving into "Viking music" which, I'll be honest, I wasn't sure would turn up anything at all. Surprisingly there was quite a lot, some of which I've added to my play lists.
I came across one artist calling herself Viking Barbie, real name Kayleigh Swenson, who, while not presenting traditional Viking music, whatever that may be, seemed interesting.
Here's three of her songs: Lies, broken wings, and a cover of tears in heaven which is really cool.
I read that she's struggled with alcoholism and drug use and that she openly shares that story readily and her road to recovery which I figure wasn't smooth. I applaud it as it may help others find their own path to recovery. She seems strong willed, in control of her own life and narrative and I think it's great she's expressing that through music and in other ways; she's "unapologetically her", a person who owns her mistakes and her road to redemption; would that everyone could say the same.
It's not Viking music at all really, and I'm not sure I like all of her music but she can sing and the last track I linked is a great version of Tears in Heaven.
