We mostly know blockchain for crypto, tokens and money. But I think blockchain can be useful for many other things also.
One interesting use can be public opinion poll.
Normally when we see any online poll, there is always some questions in mind. Who is counting the votes? Can they change the result from backend? How we can trust that shown numbers are actually real?
Recently I came across RaiSetu, an Indian public opinion survey which is trying to use Hive blockchain for this purpose.
The concept looks quite interesting.
First mobile number is verified by OTP, so one mobile number can vote only once. After voting, every accepted vote creates a separate transaction on Hive blockchain.
Voter also gets the transaction ID and can click it to check his vote transaction directly on blockchain.
Age, sex and state information are not put on blockchain, so personal demographic data remains separately stored.
Of course this system cannot solve every problem of online polling. For example, one person can have more than one mobile number. Also any online survey depends a lot on who actually participates in it.
But I like the idea that once a vote is recorded on blockchain, it cannot be silently changed later by website owner.
This is something different from usual use of Hive.
We always talk about blockchain being transparent and immutable. Maybe public surveys and opinion polls are one practical area where these qualities can actually be useful.
