LIFE IN CAMP
Her night seemed short as the bugle sounded at 4:30am for them to wake up and prepare for the day. The day started with the soldiers using strange slangs Fola later got accustomed to"If you're sleeping you're wrong" and after she successfully managed to have her bathe in the extremely crowdy female hostel, she mused to herself 'I was warned to wake up early to have my bathe but i was too wake up my lazy ass.' While heading to the parade ground for the morning devotion which she later found out holds 4:30am everyday for the next 21days of her stay except from Sundays she heard another slang "double up" If you're walking you're wrong, she couldn't help but to start laughing which almost landed her in trouble.
After the devotion, all prospective Corp Members assembled to be addressed then the day's activities were relayed to them after which each platoon officers addressed their platoons, introduced them to the soldiers and Man O' War assigned to them and the morning drills and excercise started. Fola learnt different Man O' War drills and songs like "dem go born mumu, dem go born mumu, if corper marry corper them go born mumu of which her platoon members changed to if corper marry soldier" before the soldiers divided her platoon into groups ehere they picked the platoon leaders and tested the platoon members to select those who performed perfectly during matching and then drill thrm for more training. Fola's platoon was the first to be on duty which was the beginning of a stressful day for her while others started the matching parade with the assigned soldiers. To reduce the stress of matching Fola joined the sanitation group so while the rest are matching she's carrying out sanitation. After the chores, they all went to have their breakfast which made her miss her mother's cooking because she vomited anytime she ate kitchen food which conditioned her into buying food at mami market.
After breakfast, they were allowed to rest for an hour before the lectures began. At 9am, the bugle sounded and they moved to the lecture area which lasted till 2pm. Then they assembled under the hot sun on the parade ground for afternoon parade. Since no sanitation she had to join the matching and was embarrassed because she found it difficult to be in sync with everyone else, the parade lasted till 6pm. They had their dinner and retired for the day, which ended with the soldiers blowing whistles for everyone to go to bed and then lights out at 10pm. She couldn't be more grateful the day was finally over but she couldn't stop thinking about the stress she would go through at the break of dawn.
Few days after their arrival, they were sworn in and a welcome party was organized for them with a lot of fun activities and they were asked to wear their ceremonial dress also referred to as 7/7 consisting of cap, crested vest, boots, trousers, belt, jacket and a pair of socks but Fola couldn't wear hers because her ceremonial dress is like a clothe given to her by her fat grandma and she's not ready to be laughed at.
