It looked like Bellerin would be stuck without a move after Real Betis refused to cough up the transfer fees to sign him, even though he helped them win the Copa Del Rey. The cash-strapped club wanted Arsenal to hand him over for free but Arsenal refused. The move seemed to be dead until Atletico Madrid put their name into the hat.
The Gunners have opened talks over a move for the right-back and what makes this move even more appealing to Arsenal is that report suggests Bellerin would be willing to waive the final year of his Arsenal salary in order to force through a move. So Athleti coming to the party only makes this fight for Bellerin more interesting, does he join Simione or Manuel Pellegrini?

Atheltico is in need of a right-sided defender and is on the lookout since selling right-back Kieran Trippier to Newcastle. The England international had spent two and a half seasons at the Wanda Metropolitano, but left in January and was never replaced.
Bellerin has already informed Arsenal of his desire to leave, with Betis having been his preferred destination but if Athletico can stump up some cash, I am sure the Arsenal board will hand over the transfer.
Why pass up a cash transfer and a reduction in wages for a year for a player you no longer feel is part of your plan?
Hopefully this is the first of many sales with a few players currently in the squad that probably won't play this season and should look for new jobs.
