ALONE

In the midst of the night, you are awoken by a sound so piercing
it could be heard from across the nation
So earsplitting, it's silent
It's a silence so deafening, it can't possibly be overlooked
You spring out of your safe, warm bed
expectations scrambled and lost
Your eyes, wide, scan what seems to be a vacant room
...but is it?
Are you truly alone?
You can smell the fear radiating off of you as you begin to question your state of solitude
With every sound that breaks the lack of, you're driven closer and closer to insanity
The taste of a nervous sweat can be recognized as you lick your lips and tip toe around your dwelling
Every shadow
every sound
is like a drug, rushing through your veins
sending chills up and down your spine
Senses you never knew you had begin to kick in
Eyes pop from the back of your head
You see everything
You step outside of yourself
watch your empty carcass as it somehow manages to continue searching the room
for something it doesn't really wish to uncover
You turn on a light
fall back into your body
Extra senses fade away with suspicions and unease
You allow exhaustion to take over
drifting off into the sea of sleep
...but you aren't alone
You are never alone.
