Greetings, friends of this community, continuing with Initiative No. 2 proposed by @holos-lotus, concerned with sowing awareness to harvest well-being, I bring up a topic that has to do with the treatment we give to animals, beings who feel, love, and rejoice in the way we behave.
A few days ago, while walking down one of these streets, I spotted in the distance a woman who has become known for her extraordinary love for animals. She has an unusual behavior with them, and she said this because I know there aren't many people who behave that way.
It's become common among people to call her when they hear of an animal that needs her help. When we have a sick animal, we let her know, and she sorts through her many tasks and comes. She treats the animal as if it were her own pet, hugging it, kissing it, petting it, and speaking affectionately. They already recognize her and wag their tails or get scared, fearing the injection.
As I said, I saw her standing in the distance, and when I got closer, I noticed a dog panting, lying on the ground. It looked very bad. She told me it had distemper and she couldn't take it like that because it would contaminate the eighteen others she has at her home, treating them and preparing them for adoption. They dumped this one on that land, tied up and put it in a bag. It had to be put to sleep; it was very bad.
Many people forget the need to treat these beings with respect, as they feel and suffer from everything that happens to them. It hurts to know that they are being mistreated because those who own them tie them up, often without food or water. They carry sun and rain, and this is no exaggeration; many people tie up dogs to make them fierce and use them as defenders of the home.
When we treat an animal with love, the connection that forms between them and us is so beautiful, because we give them the treatment they deserve. Having a pet, who is loved and given all the care they need, is something that transmits mutual gratitude. They for the care they receive, and we for that beautiful feeling they give us, along with their very nature.
It is now widely known how the animals we care for also contribute to our well-being. Sitting with them and enjoying their romps creates a feeling of calm and balance that only those who have animals in their environment who are raised with care and respond to that love can experience.
There are countless stories of animals that have developed a close relationship with their owners, who suffer when their owners leave or die, because it creates a feeling of love perhaps more powerful than that of people.
There are dogs that are trained as pets, but benefits for those on the autism spectrum have also been found in horses. Cats tend to become attached to their owners and are kept indoors, accompanying the elderly or playing with children.
It takes a lot of maturity and a lot of education to care for animals in general. There are television programs that show the attention different types of pets receive. Developing this awareness of love and care for animals from school age, through projects, even within communities, is something that is needed. So that we no longer see that caring for a pet with care is not a strange characteristic, one that only occurs in one person or another, and that others are destined to cause harm or be indifferent.
In Venezuela, there are laws that punish animal abuse with imprisonment, but this doesn't seem to raise awareness because love for animals is an educational issue that needs to be taken more seriously. There are some institutions for deworming, sterilization, and free veterinary care, but they are not enough. Awareness needs to be raised.
Thank you for your kind reading.
