English Version

Greetings friends of the Holos & Lotus community today I was struck by the initiative of our friend parauri@parauri, called "Your child is bored, it can be positive", so I made this post. I invite lilianajimenez@lilianajimenez and syllem@syllem.

Some people have a word in life that they don't believe in, mine is boredom, I've always had a grudge against it, as well as people who get bored. I understand that time is so short for so much to do that being bored is a waste of time, especially now, where there are more activities to keep you entertained.

When my children were young, every time vacation time came, I would show up with boxes and more boxes of board games, in those months that vacation time was filled by my children with the game: challenge to knowledge checkers, puzzles, monopoly, among others.

A ream of paper was my auxiliary nanny, when necessarily, I had to leave them alone. Those white sheets, a box of colors, glue and scissors, and old magazines were enough materials for them to keep them entertained all that time, they made cards, letters, collages, drawings and the oldest daughter made dolls and paper clothes for the little ones to dress them up. When I arrived, the four children were around the table and the floor was full of crumpled paper and clippings of everything they had made; they got up excited to show me the production and continued entertaining themselves while I made dinner.

My youngest grandchildren .

One Christmas my daughter and the neighbor were there, they would be 10 and 13 years old respectively, when my daughter told me: "what a boring Christmas" I immediately replied "the boring one is not Christmas, the boring one is you, there is so much to do" and she remembers that those words were enough for her to change her look at that day. Undoubtedly she was letting herself be convinced by her friend, who had another way of looking at life, not in every house the boys entertained themselves with paper and scissors, most of the time television was the only ally to avoid boredom.

Now that I have grandchildren and I have shared with them their daily experiences, I see that they continue to entertain themselves, that they continue to cut paper, make posters, paint on a wall that was prepared for them, play in the yard, swing on a swing made by their father. They play some musical instrument: cuatro, maracas and if not with a stick and an overturned bucket they have a drum.

I marvel at the amount of energy these children have to move from one activity to another without ever hearing the word boredom. There is a mind that is always looking for something to do.

One of my grandsons plays bandola, since he gets up in the morning he grabs the instrument and looks for what song to play with it, in my recent visit, we could have a magical moment: he played the cuatro and I sang songs known to me, but he was interested in finding the score on the internet, to take it to the instrument and play it, for me to sing. That activity, which was practically improvised, gave us a pleasant and unforgettable moment for both of us, with the promise of doing it again when we meet again.

My eldest granddaughter usually designs envelopes with figures made by herself, which she collects them, by colors, shapes and motifs; she has a lot of fun making those designs.

Some time ago we practiced origami with the help of the internet, when we make precise searches, we can get a lot of activities to do with the children.

My daughter-in-law has a group called Musical Kids, where she teaches singing and various activities that have to do with music to children from 4 years old and up. My grandchildren participate there and then perform at some schools, especially during the Christmas season.

Really, I wouldn't have time to stop if I kept listing everything they do day after day. It's hard for me to imagine them being bored because even when there is no electricity they come up with something to do.

Thank you for your kind reading.
