In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Back to Basics ruleset and see what strategy works when units lose all abilities. Summoner effects still remain active so choosing the right summoner becomes a lot more important in my opinion.

For this battle, i've gone with General Sloan as my summoner because I want to do heavy Range attack damage and take advantage of the Close Range and Shieldless rules.

But in general, when it comes to Back to Basics, it's about maximizing health while trying to do as much damage as quick as possible. Range attacks can be deadly if you get past the shield.

1st position - War Chaang - Does both melee and range attack from the front.
2nd position - Furious Chicken - Some buffer for the rest of my range attacking units at the back.
3rd position - Silvershield Sheriff - Does pretty heavy damage after the boost from General Sloan.
4th position - Hero of Beyond - Benefits from the summoner boost with decent health and also decent damage.
5th position - Peace Bringer - Low mana cost for a quick attacker with 4 range attack.
6th position - Supply Runner - Main asset is his quick attack. Want him to take out the opponent's units early.

After the first round, it was hard to tell who was going to come out on top. Both of us had our front two units taken out. Looking at the health and attack of the remaining units, it looked to be slightly in my favor but missed attacks might be a problem.

Well, that's where the higher health of the units comes really handy in Back to Basics. They were able to absorb my enemy's attacks and eventually turn the tables one by one.

That's all for this Back to Basics edition of the Battlemage Secrets. See you in the next one.
