Today I want to share my visit to a plant store and my encounter with the Bromeliad Billbergia pyramidalis.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi visita a una tienda de plantas y mi encuentro con la Bromeliad Billbergia pyramidalis.
I always visit a plant store near my house because they have a great variety of species. What I like most about this place is that the owners are patient people, and they explain very well about the care that should be taken of those plants that catch the attention of the buyer.
Although bromeliads can indeed be very common in some countries as in the central part of America and part of its mountain range, in Europe, they are still considered an exotic plant despite having arrived on the continent from the eighteenth century. It is a plant that needs a temperate climate and frequent watering. When the plant is small it can often grow near the trunks of some trees, being an epiphyte plant, but it can also grow directly on the ground.
The bromeliad Billbergia pyramidalis is a plant that needs space to be cultivated. It needs sun exposure but not direct sun. So currently, as I have no space at home, I could only enjoy this species in the plant store. However, this did not stop me from learning more about it.
Siempre visito una tienda de plantas cerca de mi casa porque tienen una gran variedad de especies. Lo que más me gusta de este lugar es que sus dueños son unas personas pacientes y te explican muy bien sobre los cuidados que deben tener aquellas plantas que llamen la atención del comprador.
Si bien es cierto que las bromelias pueden ser muy comunes en algunos países como en la parte central de América y parte de su cordillera, en Europa aún son consideradas una planta exótica a pesar de haber llegado al continente a partir del siglo XVIII. Es una planta que necesita de un clima templado y de frecuente riego. Cuando la planta es pequeña muchas veces puede crecer cerca de los troncos de algunos árboles, siendo una planta epífita, pero también pueden crecer directamente en el suelo.
La bromelia Billbergia pyramidalis es una planta que necesita de espacio para ser cultivada. Necesita exposición al sol pero no de forma directa. Así que actualmente como no tengo espacio en casa, solo pude disfrutar de esta especie en la tienda de plantas. Sin embargo esto no me impidió conocer más sobre ella.
Well, its flower is so striking that the eyes are drawn directly to it and it stands out from the other plants.
I am not a professional photographer, I just use my cell phone camera, and I tried to take some pictures of the flower of this wonderful plant. I confess that its intense red and violet color at the end of the apex of each leaf is quite a challenge for the photograph not to be saturated with color. For some of these photos, I had to edit them with Snapseed so that I could enjoy all the detail of these inflorescences.
Pues su flor es tan llamativa que los ojos se dirijen directamente sobre ella resaltando sobre las demás plantas.
No soy fotógrafo profesional, apenas me llevo con la cámara de mi celular y traté de tomar unas imágenes de la flor de esta maravillosa planta. Les confieso que su intenso color rojo y violeta al final del ápice de cada hoja son todo un reto para que la fotografía no quede saturada de color. Algunas de estas fotos las tuve que editar con Snapseed para que poder disfrutar bien de todo el detalle de estas inflorescencias.
This plant only flowers once, so it was a gift to be able to find several of them in this process that occurs at the end of the summer. From the time the flower stalk emerges to the full opening of the flower it usually takes 12 weeks.
Esta planta solo florece una sola vez así que fue un regalo poder encontrar varias de ellas en este proceso que ocurre al final del verano. Mientras sale el pedúnculo floral hasta la apertura total de la flor suele pasar 12 semanas.
As you can see in the picture, the flower has light red triangular-shaped leaves that are the ones that give the name "pyramidalis" to this bromeliad but should not be confused with part of the flower. The flower is borne from the small reddish violet-tipped buds that can be seen emerging from the middle of the flower stalk. They look a bit like fingers.
Como pueden apreciar en la imagen la flor tiene una hojas rojas claras en forma triangular que son las que le dan la denominación de "pyramidalis" a esta bromelia, pero no se deben confundir con parte de la flor. La flor nace de los pequeños capullos rojizos con punta violeta que se observan salen del medio del tallo floral. Se asemejan un poco a dedos.
In this picture, we can already appreciate the complete flower, where its petals are fully opened, revealing its violet-tipped stigma and yellow ochre stamens. This flower is a beauty, it seems to be hand-painted by an artist. I imagine that this was the intention of that great energy that gave life to everything in nature.
En esta fotografía podemos apreciar ya la flor completa, donde sus pétalos se abrieron por completo dejando ver su estigma con punta violeta y estambres amarillo ocre. Esta flor es toda una belleza parece pintada a mano por un artista, me imagino que así fue la intención de esa gran energía que dio vida a todo aquello que hay en la naturaleza.
