I am all about clean energy and innovations but if the clean energy and innovations were that easy to create, we would already done it. There is just so much more variables than you think. And there already are pretty advanced hydroelectric power plants, but as I read from somewhere , you cannot build them everywhere, and with every already built you are changing wildlife dramatically. Other thing is there is no such a thing as "free electricity" if there is electricity you would pay for it unless you build one at your home , than you have it free to some extend ,also we can not say "green electricity" because nothing is 100% green. About nuclear power plants, it is not that bad as some people portray it, also in japan they have a method to fully use nuclear waist to generate power.
