The Bunny Hash here in Chiang Mai as well as other places in the world is the women only division of the Hash House Harriers. The reason for this existing is anyone's guess but it is likely in response to originally the HHH was a men-only group. Women are still not allowed to come to the monday version of the Hash that we have here in Chiang Mai but there are Thursday and Saturday where everyone is permitted. This isn't a sexism thing, it is a tradition thing. The Hash House Harriers goes back more than 100 years and things were a bit different back then.
The Bunny Hash here in Thailand is actually quite active and due to their own decisions, men are sometimes allowed to participate if they want to. The Bunny Hash has autonomy, this is their own decision.
I have been to a couple of their events and they are quite similar to the men Hashes although I would say that their runs are actually quite a bit better organized.
While we are out here suffering in the sunlight during the dry season, they wisely choose to go to places with a bunch of tree cover. Sometimes our own idiocy amazed me because of course that would work better.
They organize their own taxis, get their own ice and do everything without the overall organization helping out. Maybe it sounds a bit patronizing for me to say that. One thing they always do better than the men is the food options. While the men only side of things tends to have some chips and maybe a banana or two, the Bunny Hash will normally have full meals that are prepared while the group is on their runs. The men never do this.
They will allow men to participate if they don't feel their numbers are great enough for a particular event but it is completely up to them. No man can ever force their way into an event and to my knowledge, nobody has ever tried.
There are a lot of them, but they don't normally organize an event every week the way that the men do. no offense ladies, but the same issue that plagues the men's Hash as well as the Chiang Mai HHH in general as is likely the case around the world is that our numbers are aging and we are not doing a fantastic job of replenishing our ranks with newer and younger blood.
I hope that can be rectified at some point because I would really dislike it if our group was that last group to ever take part in this.
Their schedule is a little bit more difficult to determine for the future than the other chapters we have here, but if you are in Chiang Mai and would like a ladies only sort of thing in your outdoor adventure, you can find their information on our official website as well.
