I remember that day. I was celebrating my second birthday when I was admitted to the oncology hospital in Havana. I was doing much better than the year before when I went in, but I still needed treatments, that's why I stayed in the hospital.

My husband planned the whole surprise, he wanted to surprise me and take me out of the hospital routine. He talked to the head nurse in the oncology ward and asked permission to take me out for the afternoon.

It was about 4 p.m. when she asked me to get dressed up to go out for a moment to see a doctor. I thought that was odd since all that was done in the mornings. But it was my birthday so getting out of that room was all I wanted.

I quickly got dressed and we left. I was so happy when we left the hospital and I could breathe that fresh air and with the salt air smell of beautiful Havana.

We walked a few blocks until we reached Presidentes Avenue. At that time it gets dark early so the sun goes down quickly to hide in the horizon, it seems that it is going to take a dip in the sea every afternoon.

We went to the old palace hotel. An imposing old but beautiful building that adorns the avenue. On the second floor there is a cafeteria.

I was very excited because in some of Cuba's music videos this cafeteria has served as a stage.

We entered and everything was very modern. The lamps, the furniture, the TV. I felt happy because the atmosphere was very familiar.

We ordered a coffee of course and a pizza to celebrate life and a totally different day away from the trite and routine. I felt alive and that day I promised myself to have many celebrations like this one.

When we finished we asked for the bill and they brought us a beautiful handmade chest with the bill inside. It was very curious since I had never been given the bill in such a special way.

The coffee was delicious, I haven't had a brown coffee for a long time and that day I was able to indulge my taste buds with this treat.

It was a night I will never forget and this beautiful café became a point of visit every time we go to Havana.
