During one of my latest garage sale visits, I managed to find something that I never thought I would own. A Mattel Aquarius computer, still in the box. It was not new or anything, but looks like it could be.
I managed to get the computer and data recorder for $10 USD. Not bad if I say so myself.
This computer was made by Mattel. The toy company Mattel. I guess the computer was designed by one company, and Mattel, wanting to get into the computer craze, bought and started manufacturing it.
The computer was a flop though. The Microsoft Basic installed on it did not contain the resources to handle loops, the computer had a small amount of built in RAM, and expansions were expensive. In the end, very few computers were sold.
There are only a few cartridges available for this computer, and they are still relatively expensive. Most are still sealed. Even though I don't have any sort of software to run, the computer still runs perfectly, and will be a great addition to the collection. I am glad I managed to get it before the recyclers did.
