This post is pretty random but for my college english class I had to write a fictional story, so of course I included bitcoin. Let me know what you think.
Let me tell you a story son about how greed almost brought the world to its knees. The world you know today is very different from the one I grew up in. To understand where we are now we must first go back in time.
You see the world has been saturated with greed for centuries. In the twentieth century we went through the great depression, which was caused by uncontrolled stock speculation and the borrowing of money to buy these volatile assets. The greed of the investors and bankers approving the loans to buy stock was unsustainable, which resulted in stock prices plummeting, loans not being paid, and collateral holders cutting their losses. Do you think they learned from their mistakes? Ill tell you they did not.
Now we fast forward to the 21st century. Its 2007-2008 and the housing market is booming. Not because of healthy growth, but because lenders were handing out mortgages to people that were not qualified. They knew this was wrong, but the lure of quick money was to strong. If that wasn’t bad enough, they took the bad mortgages bundled them with good ones and sold them as securities. Investment banks bought up the disguised ticking time bombs, thinking there was a lot of money to be made off the mortgages. It was a house of cards waiting to fall. And boy did it fall. Some of the biggest investment banks in the world at that time went under or had to merge with others to survive. The US government had to step in and bail out the greedy bankers, so the economy wouldn’t collapse. All these actions sent us into a long recession.
Now that brings us to the creation of the new world you’ve come to know. After the last world market crash, all the governments from around the world dropped interest rates to stimulate the economy. It worked for years, but like the broken record of the past it all came crashing down again in 2025. This time they couldn’t fix it. Currencies around the world crumbled, civil unrest grew, and governments gave empty promises of better times to come.
Eventually things started to settle down. But the 1%’s did something strange. They had been preparing for this exact event for years now, while feeding the middle and lower class lies that everything was ok. They saw the writing of the wall that no longer could they just print money to pay their depts. If there’s a never-ending supply what value does it have if it’s not scarce. What was their solution? A currency that has a finite supply and is immutable. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies were their solution. For years they were buying up the supplies while claiming they were dead. They even walled themselves off in California to protect their miners which control 80% of the networks hash rate. With their deception, forward planning, and insatiable appetite for more they had solidified their positions at the top of the food chain once more.
Now I know your probly getting bored of the history lesson. So here is where your old dad Nick comes in. After the collapse of the economy the 1%’s needed people to run their mining operation. Me being in the IT and cryptocurrency space before the collapse was granted a job maintaining the mining farms. It wasn’t a dream job, but it put food on the table and I was allowed more liberties than the normal person. One night when I was dropped back off at our house after work, I was approached by a man who told me he was part of a network of hackers that had an idea to redistribute the wealth back to the masses. Since I had access to the miners and servers they wanted me to insert a thumb drive with malware on it directly into the main servers. I politely told him no but was stricken with fear cause if the 1%’s found out I had even been approached by a group like this me and your mom would have been in grave danger. The problem was I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. It plagued me for weeks. Was me risking my life worth helping the masses? I finally had an answer for myself and I was going to do it. I quickly realized I had no way of contacting the guy. After two more weeks the guy showed up again and asked if I changed my mind. He was ecstatic to here that I was in.
Now we had to plan this very carefully. The only time I could access the main terminal that held no restricted access to the miners was if they crashed or the whole system need to be rebooted. The plan we decided on that had the best chance to succeed involved the hackers form the out side launching a ddos attack on the network connection. The reason for this was to flood the connection with so much spam access request that it would crash the miners. After that step was complete it was up to me when I was asked to reboot the servers to plug in the usb that contained the malware. After the malware was on the servers they were granted a back door into the system and would be able to point the miner’s payouts to everyone else in the United States. It was like a modern-day robin hood story. Also, the great thing about the malware was if the 1%’s tried to regain control over the hardware they would overheat the miners and render them useless. It would take years for them to rebuild everything or they could strike a deal with the middle and lower classes that was fair for all.
The day can when the plan was to be executed. I was so nervous I almost threw up before I left the house. When I got to the farm it was hard to act natural, knowing what I was about to do. I had a small window from when the malware took effect to when the security systems would realize something was wrong and the alarms would go off. As expected at 11:30am the they started the ddos attack. Within 20 minutes the system crashed, and I was called to reboot the main server. It was game time and I was sweating profusely. When I got to the cage the server was in the security guard who had to swipe me in asked me if I was ok? He said I looked sick cause I was sweating so bad and had turned stark white for being so nervous. I told him I was ok probly just a little bug going around, and he agreed saying he knew a couple people that had just had this to. I nodded not daring to speak another word and went in. I found the terminal, loaded the malware, and initiated the reboot. Now was the hard part. I had five minutes before the reboot completed to get out of the building and to my car before the alarms went off. I exited the cage and started to walk briskly to the main exit in the warehouse. It was about a two-minute walk to the exit and another minute to my car. Everything was looking great until I got the main gate to exit and the security guard Joe that was always their decided to strike up a conversation. I had three minutes left until the alarm went off and he was trying to have a conversation with me and not letting me through the turnstiles. Of course, I thought this would happen its all over I’m getting caught and am going to be sentenced to death. Just my luck death by pointless small talk. After two minutes of talking I got a phone call from your mom asking me to pick something up form the store when I came home tonight, and I saw my opportunity. I lied to Joe saying you called saying there was an emergency at the house and I needed to get there asap. He immediately pushed the button to open the gates and let me out. I glanced at my watch and I had 30 seconds to get to the car. I bid him farewell walking normal out the exit but as soon as I was out of site I started sprinting to the car. If I could just get to the car I was home free.
Well I made it and just in the Knick of time. I just exited the gated parking lot when the whole facility went into lockdown. Had I just done it? A giant sigh of relief waved over me and I made my way home to get your mother to go into hiding for a while. It took 6 months for the 1%’s to realize they had lost control and had to work with the rest of the population instead of trying to control us.
When me and your mother came out of hiding we were celebrated as heroes. We had a big party and parade to celebrate our new freedom. That was also the day you were made. So, you see son the greed of a few has plagued us for centuries, but the selflessness of others has granted us freedom form them. Don’t ever forget that.
