Hi Guys

Im back this week with another 3 song set for ablaze@ablaze 's Three Tune Tuesday.

This week Im playing 3 tunes inspired by artists from the GemsOnVHS youtube channel.
https://www.youtube.com/c/GemsOnVHS

The first tune is "Blue Eyes Dancing" which is written by Matt Heckler and performed by Matt Heckler on Violin with Benjamin Todd of The Lost Dog Street Band acompaning on Guitar. One day I hope I meet a fiddle player so I can play this tune better.

"Blue Eyes Dancing"

Don't leave me hanging, from a willow tree
Honey cut me down, 'cus I can't breathe
I'm up the mountain, ain't coming down
No you won't see me around your town

I'm high n' lonesome, 'n I'm running dry
I've given up, on gettin' by
So come home honey, don'tcha make me beg
Take out your fiddle, tune up and play

I know its hard when the sun goes down
To be alone, on shaky grounds
Go get some matches and kerosene
We'll burn it down, honey, run out and leave

I bleed out slowly, in my Sunday vest
When you come around, In that Sunday dress
Your blue eyes dancing, drawin' me in
And sideways glances, honey where have you been

I know its hard when the sun goes down
To be alone, on shaky grounds
Go get some matches and kerosene
We'll burn it down, honey, run out and leave

Don't leave me hanging, from a willow tree
Honey cut me down, 'cus I can't breathe
I'm up the mountain, ain't coming down
No you won't see me around your town

I'm high n' lonesome, 'n I'm running dry
I've given up, on gettin' by
So come home honey, don'tcha make me beg
Take out your fiddle, tune up and play

I know its hard when the sun goes down
To be alone, on shaky grounds
Go get some matches and kerosene
We'll burn it down, honey, run out and leave

And I know its hard when the sun goes down
To be alone, on shaky grounds
Go get some matches and kerosene
We'll burn it down, honey, run out and leave

The second song is "Rats Get Fat" by The Hill Country Devil
This is one of my favorite tunes to play, songs by this artist are always really well written with some of the deepest lyrics Ive ever heard.

"Rat's Get Fat"
The Hill Country Devil

Better men have died for less, rats get fat no matter where you've been
And San Antone's a catacomb where sirens speak the tongue of broken men
They say your body is a credit card, sell your ass, they're sure to get you well
And if they offer tainted points, just bleach the ends, add a crack upon your belt

And it wasn't all too long ago, crying out in a hospital gown
With a bandage torn off from the chest and an out to stick the landing coming down
The boarding house was an easy out, but it don't help when the noise begins to tower
And every second is a minute and every minute is another endless hour

So swing low, Mother Misery, let the shackles go
The gift of ease before I die alone,
And I know I'll die alone

Now pacing an apartment, gifted clothes hang tattered, torn, and loose
How deeply green the grass must be as it calls beyond the window of a noose
And now cowardice is baring teeth, a fit of shakes in wait before the sight
So I only kill a part of me, the cost that buys some shelter for the night

And now morning comes with vengeance, taunted by the light now growing wild
Bathing in the warmth she brings, a kick to shut down weeping like a child
So begin the false-bought clarity, the summoned strength to labor through the fight
Just to thumb a stolen wallet and to stumble towards another endless night

So swing low, Mother Misery, let the shackles go
The gift of ease before I die alone,
And I know I'll die alone

Better men have died for less, but the rats get fat no matter where you've been...
And San Antone's a catacomb where sirens speak the tongue of broken men...

The last song in this set is called "The Birmingham Mill" I saw a video of Willie Watson play it on a Banjo.Willie is a collector of old folk songs much like myself. As soon as I heard this one I knew I need to figure out a version of my own.

"The Birmingham Mill"

One fair girl with the fine yellow hair
Wild flower of the west country
She left one night for a stormy ride
On a winding road to the east

One fair girl at the Birmingham Mill
For a dollar and a half times three
See the spinning wheels turn, she is young but she'll learn
With her slender white hands to weave

Count twelve smoke stacks in a row row row
And a girl of five times three
See the mill boss patrol, hear the factory bells toll
And the girls look as sad as can be
As they cry for the west country

One little spark set a light to a flame
And the fire climbed through to the east
And the roof it crashed and the girls all dashed
And they all cried "oh god please"
As they crawled on thier hands and thier knees

At the Birmingham Mill where the wild flowers grow
Round the grave of the girl so fair
See the lilly bells bloom round her cold marble tomb
And they come in the spring of the year

One fair girl with the fine yellow hair
Wild flower of the west country
May she rest well amoungst the wild lilly bells
In her cold marble tomb in the east.
