Entre el 23 y el 24 de abril de 2025 durante horas anduve por el [Jardín Botánico de Madrid](https://rjb.csic.es/el-jardin/plano/). Sobre los tulipanes ya hice una publicación y hoy mostraré una parte del recorrido que no apareció en la publicación [anterior](https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@enraizar/the-botanical-garden-of-madrid-spain-in-spring-engesp-h1a). Además, mostraré algunas de las funciones que desarrolla el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas [(CSIC)](https://www.csic.es/es) en [este lugar](https://rjb.csic.es/una-jornada-en-el-botanico-de-madrid-acerca-la-accesibilidad-en-parques-jardines-y-entornos-naturales/). Pero, antes de comenzar nuestra visita, quiero dedicar esta publicación a una amiga muy acuariana: @zullyscott. Hoy es un día muy especial para ella y está invitada a acompañarme por este paseo que creo que lo disfrutará: hay Naturaleza y arte. También están invitados todos los seres maravillosos que hoy compartrirán el día con ella y que tanto la aman.

Between April 23 and 24, 2025, I spent hours walking around the [Madrid Botanical Garden](https://rjb.csic.es/el-jardin/plano/). I already posted about the tulips, and today I will show you part of the tour that did not appear in the [previous post](https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@enraizar/the-botanical-garden-of-madrid-spain-in-spring-engesp-h1a). I will also show some of the functions carried out by the Spanish National Research Council [CSIC](https://www.csic.es/es) in [this place](https://rjb.csic.es/una-jornada-en-el-botanico-de-madrid-acerca-la-accesibilidad-en-parques-jardines-y-entornos-naturales/). But before we begin our visit, I want to dedicate this post to a very Aquarius friend: @zullyscott. Today is a very special day for her, and she's invited to join me on this walk, which I think she'll enjoy: there's nature and art. All the wonderful people who will be sharing the day with her and who love her so much are also invited to come along.

El Jardin Botánico se encuentra muy próximo a varias salas de exposiciones, muy cercano al Museo del Prado, a una feria del libro permanente que se encuentra en la calle Claudio Moyano y al Parque de El Buen Retiro. Parte del eje Prado-Retiro al que la UNESCO considera como [Patrimonio Mundial](https://rjb.csic.es/el-real-jardin-botanico-ya-forma-parte-del-patrimonio-mundial-de-la-unesco/) de la humanidad. Entramos tras esperar una pequeña cola y con nuestra entrada comprada con antelación. La entrada principal se encuentra frente a un lateral del Museo del Prado y pegada al Paseo del Prado. Hay varios autobuses que tienen muy cercana su parada, aunque en mi opinión la mejor forma de llegar si no estás alojado en las proximidades es el Metro. La estación del Arte (L1) es la más cercana a nuestro destino, a sólo unos pocos minutos andando.

The Botanical Garden is located very close to several exhibition halls, near the Prado Museum, the permanent book fair on Claudio Moyano Street, and El Buen Retiro Park. Part of the Prado-Retiro axis is considered a [UNESCO](https://rjb.csic.es/el-real-jardin-botanico-ya-forma-parte-del-patrimonio-mundial-de-la-unesco/) World Heritage Site . We entered after waiting in a short queue, having purchased our tickets in advance. The main entrance is located opposite one side of the Prado Museum and next to the Paseo del Prado. There are several buses that stop very close by, although in my opinion, the best way to get there if you are not staying nearby is by Metro. The Arte station (L1) is the closest, just a few minutes' walk from our destination.

Dentro del Jardín encontraremos varios paseos y caminos que dividen el espacio de forma muy ordenena, separando los diversos ambientes del jardín. # Invernadero de Castroviejo Entrando por la puerta de la Plaza Murillo, en el Paseo Brotero, a mano derecha, y un costado del Jardín nos encontramos el invernadero de Santiago Castroviejo. Se tarata de una construcción moderna de cristal y metal dividida en tres partes. La sección dedicada a las plantas del desierto ya la recorrimos en la anterior publicación. En total, perece que en el invernadero crecen más de 1300 especies de plantas. Hoy nos adentraremos en las dos estancias que quedaron pendientes de visitarlas, dedicadas a las plantas de clima tropical y subtropical.

Inside the garden, there are several paths and walkways that divide the space in a very orderly fashion, separating the different areas of the garden. # Castroviejo Greenhouse Entering through the gate at Plaza Murillo, on Paseo Brotero, on the right-hand side and next to the garden, we find the Santiago Castroviejo greenhouse. It is a modern glass and metal construction divided into three parts. We already covered the section dedicated to desert plants in the previous publication.. In total, it seems that more than 1,300 species of plants grow in the greenhouse. Today we will explore the two rooms that we have yet to visit, dedicated to tropical and subtropical plants.

En la parte tropical el clima parece que está bien logrado, comencé a sudar nada más entrar en esta sala. El calor y la humedad, sin duda, se hacen sentir. Calor intenso que continuaba en la zona subtropical. En estas dos secciones del invernadero nos encontramos con las bellas orquídeas, las heliocondas, con sus flores de punta roja o anaranjadas, con plantas carnívoras, numerosas plantas colgantes, plantas que parecen crecer de otras plantas y una pequeña charca con nenúfares y pequeños peces de color rojo anaranjado. Si no fuera por el intenso calor y la humedad, no me hubiera importado quedarme un buen rato observando a esos pececillos moviéndose por el agua. Aunque con ese calor húmedo me vi incapaz de disfrutar por mucho tiempo de la charca con sus plantas y peces. llama la atención como la gran mayoría de los visitantes no reparan en las señales que indican la existencia de un segundo nivel. Contemplar la colección de plantas desde lo alto, no sólo cambia la prespectiva, sino que además a las plantas colgantes se las puede ver desde mucho más cerca, disfrutando de detalles que desde el nivel más bajo no se pueden apreciar.

In the tropical section, the climate seems to be well achieved; I started sweating as soon as I entered this room. The heat and humidity are definitely noticeable. The intense heat continued in the subtropical zone. In these two sections of the greenhouse, we found beautiful orchids, heliocondas with their red or orange-tipped flowers, carnivorous plants, numerous hanging plants, plants that seem to grow from other plants, and a small pond with water lilies and small red-orange fish. If it weren't for the intense heat and humidity, I wouldn't have minded staying a while watching those little fish moving through the water. However, with that humid heat, I found myself unable to enjoy the pond with its plants and fish for very long. It is striking how the vast majority of visitors do not notice the signs indicating the existence of a second level. Viewing the plant collection from above not only changes the perspective, but also allows the hanging plants to be seen from much closer up, revealing details that cannot be appreciated from the lower level.

# Las Palmas Greenhouse

# Invernadero de las Palmas El invernadero de las Palmas, también llamando Estufa de Graells, es un antígüo invernadero situado junto al invernadero que ya hemos abandonado. Construido en el siglo XIX su estructura se compone de elementos de metal y crital. Además de notarse la antiguedad, destaca por su apariencia de jungla. Los helechos y las numerosas palmeras crecen tejiendo un gran manto verde y desordenado que cubre gran parte de la estancia. Sobre el clima, no hay ninguna sorpresa. Calor y humedad.

The Las Palmas greenhouse, also known as Estufa de Graells, is an old greenhouse located next to the greenhouse we have already abandoned. Built in the 19th century, its structure is made of metal and glass. In addition to its age, it stands out for its jungle-like appearance. Ferns and numerous palm trees grow, weaving a large, disorderly green blanket that covers much of the room. As for the climate, there are no surprises. Heat and humidity.

Al salir del "trópico" me senté a tomar algo de aire más fresco y agua. A unos pocos metros de donde me encntraba sentado se popdía leer un letrero que decía: >Abraza este árbol: siente su corteza y fijate en lo grande que es. No es una indicación extraña, ya que hay numerosos carteles llamando a los visitantes a que presten atención a los olores, a las texturas de los árboles, etc. Otro cartel me indicaa que me encuentro muy cercano a uno de los [árboles singulares](https://rjb.csic.es/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/paneles-del-itinerario-de-arboles-singulares-rjb-csic.pdf) que viven en este recinto. Se trataba de un tilo con una edad aproximada de 90 años según la información del cartel.

When I left the “tropics,” I sat down to get some fresher air and water. A few meters from where I was sitting, there was a sign that read: >Hug this tree: feel its bark and notice how big it is. This is not a strange request, as there are numerous signs calling on visitors to pay attention to the smells, textures of the trees, etc. Another sign indicated that I was very close to one of the [unique trees](https://rjb.csic.es/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/paneles-del-itinerario-de-arboles-singulares-rjb-csic.pdf) that live in this area. It was a linden tree approximately 90 years old, according to the information on the sign.

# La colección de Bonsáis Reetomando nuestro caminno, nos dirijimos a la zona de los bonsáis. Es una zona muy singular con una [colección](https://rjb.csic.es/el-jardin/las-plantas-del-jardin/bonsais/) de más de 100 ejemplares, alguno de ellos de gran antigüedad. la zona de sombra es bastante acogedora con lugares para poder sentarse. Sin embargo, la mayor parte de la colección se encuentra a pleno sol y en días calurosos no apetece mucho a pararse a ver los detalles de cada uno. En esta parte del Jardín podemos disfrutar de la presencia de un estanque y una piscina, en la que además de los peces la disfrutan una familia de patos.

# The Bonsai Collection Resuming our walk, we headed to the bonsai area. It is a very unique area with a [collection](https://rjb.csic.es/el-jardin/las-plantas-del-jardin/bonsais/) of more than 100 specimens, some of which are very old. The shaded area is quite cozy with places to sit. However, most of the collection is in full sun, and on hot days, it is not very appealing to stop and look at the details of each one. In this part of the garden, we can enjoy a pond and a pool, which, in addition to fish, is enjoyed by a family of ducks.

Recorrida toda la terraza de los bonsáis, que se encuentra en un lateral y en una de las zonas altas del jardin, volvemos a bajar al nivel más bajo. Bajando unas escaleras de pierdra nos encontraremos con diversas parcelas dedicadas a diferentes plantas. La zona de las plantas aromáticas, la charca, zonas rocosas y mucha sombra que se agradece. Los carteles nos recuerdan que lo ideal es venir sin prisas y disfrutar de los colores, del leve sonido de las hojas, del tacto de la vegetación, de los grandes árboles que rodean al visitante. En la zona dedicada a las plantas aromáticas el olor es intenso y y muy agradable. Además las flores con sus colores adornan todo el paisaje que nos rodea.

After touring the entire bonsai terrace, located on one side and in one of the higher areas of the garden, we return to the lower level. Descending some stone stairs, we find various plots dedicated to different plants. There is an area for aromatic plants, a pond, rocky areas, and plenty of welcome shade. Signs remind us that it is best to come without rushing and enjoy the colors, the soft sound of the leaves, the feel of the vegetation, and the large trees that surround visitors. In the area dedicated to aromatic plants, the scent is intense and very pleasant. In addition, the colorful flowers adorn the entire landscape around us.

Poco a poco se va intensificando el sonido las ranas, lo que indica que nos encontramos muy cerca de la zona de la charca. A un canto de la charca se pueden ver alguna de las labores de CSIC. Como el etiquetado de una colección de troncos o el cultivo de especies vegetales para su conservación.

Continuando con nuestro recorrido pronto nos encontraremos con una explosión de colores. Hemos entrado en la zona de las plantas ornamentales a la que sigue la zona de los rosales. Además de las formas y colores que nos regalan las flores, nos rodea una colección de aromas más que agradables.

Para el final de la publicación ha quedado la visita al Pabellón Villanueva, donde se ubica la sede del CSIC en el Jardín Bitánico. La labor pública del CSIC en el Jardín Botánico es bastante intereste, a parte de la cientifica, se encarga de organizar talleres, visitas guiadas, cursos y exposiciones. En el momento de esta visita en el Jardín Botánico se estaban realizando diversas [acttividades](https://rjb.csic.es/eventos/2025-04-05/) en el Pabellón Villanueva. Entre ellas, en el mismo pabellón, exponían varios artristas plásticos bajo el título: La Cultura del Paisaje. La portada de esta publicación pertenece una obra de esta exposición.

# Semillas amenzadas La exposición *semillas amenazadas* entra dentro de las labores del CSIC de divulgación y educación medioamiental. La exposición presentaba las imágenes de semillas tomadas desde el microscopio. El objetivo de esta muestra era subrayar la importancia de la biodiversidad y alertar sobre el peligro de desaparición de determinadas especies.
