Theres this book I found at the charity shop that has these beautiful herb and wild flower illustrations. Over the years I've been getting better at identifying wild plants and flowers for my culinary delights, one way is sketching and painting my own drawings of the plants helps my memory as well as actively going out and taking the time to look at the different plants and appreciate the meadow flowers.
I wanted to create a new picture for my bedroom that was getting a cottage core makeover. If you don't know what cottage core is, it's essentially a aesthetic look that is inspired by time of old, kitschy, floral cottage vibes, this can be applied to interior design, fashion, art etc.
I've always been kinda into this look since my grandma was the ultimate cottage core aesthetic in her way of life, a provincial mountain woman surviving of the land, traditionally quaint. Her house had wooden features and old wood burning oven, thick local tapestries, plants, dolies and lots of little red and white mushrooms which are a core feature in cottage core aesthetic and could not be missed from this little water colour painting.
I also decided to make a bookmark for my sister because she loves reading books. The painting is of an edible flower, the leaves are edible too the whole plant tastes peppery and is called nasturtiums.
I used pens with water soluble ink, so essentially the are like water colours but have the versatility to also just be graphic colour pens, which I enjoy using alot for their ease especially when I'm travelling.
Finally the picture is hanging up,just behind my head. Its a little bit small to appreciate it from this distance but I love the over look in my room.
