English version:

Recently, my "old problem" flared up again, and this "problem" terrifies me. Every time it happens, I can’t help but think that maybe my life is coming to an end. And it seems like, as a woman, it's not easy to discuss these issues in detail with others. However, my elder sister, who studied nursing in college, is not so shy about talking about health problems. I often discuss these things with her—for one, to see if it's related to genetics, for another, to gather any useful advice or experience she might have, and finally, to get her perspective on how to handle it. This time, like usual, I asked for her opinion, and the conclusion we came to was to first see a Western doctor to rule out any serious conditions. If there's nothing major, then I should visit a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner to get some herbal medicine to help restore my health.

So, I thought of the female doctor I used to see a lot before I had children. Her consultation fee was very high, 300 RMB per visit. Sometimes, we wouldn't even get to discuss much, and that 300 RMB would be gone. But the good thing was that although the consultation fee was expensive, the medicine she prescribed was relatively cheap—at least that’s what I remember, though I can't recall the exact breakdown of costs back then because I hadn’t developed the habit of keeping track of my spending. Even though this doctor was very professional, I had seen her for a while, gone through many tests, and taken all the prescribed medication, but my "problem" was never resolved. That’s what scared me—the thought that a specialist couldn’t fix this issue, yet it had happened to me multiple times.

At first, I planned to go back to this doctor, so I found the hospital’s WeChat public account to make an appointment online. I searched for her name, but when I saw the consultation fee had risen to 500 RMB, I was shocked! That price was just too high for me! I blamed myself for being poor! So, I discussed it with my sister again. She suggested I should start with a regular doctor’s appointment instead of seeing a specialist. After all, I was only going to get a prescription and go for tests, not a full consultation. That made sense, so I checked the fees for a regular consultation—the cheapest one was 50 RMB, but all the appointments within the next 8 days were already fully booked. I’d have to get up at 7 AM the next day to抢号 (grab an appointment). But who knows if my "problem" will be recovered by then? Haha~

I set an alarm for 7 AM for the next morning. When the alarm went off, I was a bit confused at first, not really remembering why I had set it. Then I realized—it was to grab an appointment! So, I quickly opened the WeChat account and checked for available slots. There were still dozens of appointments for both morning and afternoon, but I was torn between choosing the morning or afternoon slot. I needed to take my child to the doctor early in the morning, so I was worried about not having enough time and that my child might get restless. But in the end, I chose the morning slot, then went back to bed. Recently, I’ve been sleeping a lot, always feeling like I never get enough rest. When I finally woke up again, I checked my phone, only to find that the appointment had been canceled!!! The reason? I hadn't paid yet. I hadn’t seen a doctor in so long that I completely forgot that after booking the appointment, I had to pay firstly. And by the time I went to pay, all the slots had been taken.

Looks like I’ll have to try again another day. In the afternoon, I told my sister about what happened. She said that appointment fees in Beijing were too expensive, and in Nanjing, they only cost 15 RMB. She also told me she recently went to get some medication and spent over 600 RMB. Healthcare really is expensive! But luckily, my sister has both basic health insurance and supplemental commercial insurance, so her out-of-pocket costs were much lower. If I were to go to the doctor now, I would have to pay everything myself since my job situation is still not settled. However, today I unexpectedly found that my "problem" has already healed on its own, so now I’m wondering if I even need to see a doctor at all? Haha~
