Now there are many thoughts that come to mind when thinking of starting a fast. Most people's minds become flooded with anxiety or an eery sense of mental discomfort. That's fine and all, but I firmly believe that there is something to be said for the lack of ignorance individuals carry that venture into the truths of what fasting really is. Since the beginning of our apparently significant blip of existence, fasting has been documented and practiced in numerous ways. Let's start with the basics and move onward. First of all fasting, by definition, is going without food and/or drink for a period of time. Typically it is depicted in common culture for religious reasons and involves a person refraining from both food and drink. The depiction of the verbal action of fasting has been contaminated in my opinion. It is given a bad rap and has had its named coaxed into a certain type of outlook for the masses to swallow along with all of the fluoride and lies. Like many things there are variations in fasting that may be done for health reasons other than so called "religious" practices. Juice fasting for example would be where one would refrain from eating and only drink juice for a period of time. I use fasting for both health and spirituality. Fasting can help you to renew your body and your mind and to deepen your awareness of the spirit within you. On a physical level, as your body gets rid of toxins and has the opportunity to renew and recharge itself, many even seemingly incurable health problems will simply dissolve. On a mental level, fasting will help you to get rid of worries, fears and anxieties. It will also help you to get rid of all sorts of addictions. On a spiritual level, not only will your awareness of the spirit within you deepen, but as different energy centers open and balance, different powers will begin to emerge spontaneously from within you. It is said that fasting is the fastest way to bring amazing things into your life. So what is fasting and why do we fast? We see from the biblical examples and spiritual texts that fasting can be used as a means to humble ourselves before the Universe and seek comfort, help, guidance, strength, and "The Way". Fasting allows us to draw closer to the unified oneness of all that is. In short, fasting is a tool to create a more intimate relationship with the Universe. The difference between dieting and spiritual fasting is that while you are engaged in spiritual fasting, and are abstaining from food, you are focusing your thoughts on that which is eternal within you. By directing your attention to that which is eternal within you, through meditation or by repeating genuine affirmations throughout the day, you will discover that you can go for a long time without food and still not feel hungry, because you will be absorbing the energy you need directly from cellular respiration and the connectedness to the universe rather than from the process by which food is converted into substances that can be absorbed and assimilated by the body. In the realm of quantum physics we have observed that energy flows where attention goes, Now we as infinite beings reside in a vast ocean of boundless living energy and power. As you direct your attention to the Universe you open yourself allowing for this boundless energy to flow through you. If you have never fasted before it is advised that you experiment with a 24 hour fast period first off. It is recommended if one is venturing into a longer fast that the individual eats very minimal and light foods leading up to the fast. Counseling suggest as the progression of fasting becomes a part of your life attempt to make small steps. Light food transitioning to liquid (one can use fruit or vegetable juices or water alone depending on comfortability) is the suggested method of fasting evolution. If you end up fasting frequently, you will develop a habit of fasting and you will also discover that you can fast longer and longer with greater and greater comfort and enjoyment. It should be noted here that those with diabetes or similar serious health conditions would be wise to seek professional advice before attempting to fast. Now with the ending of a fasting cycle it is wise to return to food gradually. Begin with light salads or soups. I find that consuming water along with nuts such as cashews and almonds work best for me. You can fast for a particular purpose, for healing, abundance, or simply because you enjoy the depth of spiritual awareness you experience while you are fasting. Fasting in my opinion removes obstacles that are clouding your awareness of the spirit within you and grants you a greater sense of individualized peace and the manifestation of your purpose and dreams. Fasting is very real. Lets become the catalysts for the rest of the consciousness that reside on mother Earth. Let's change the face of the Earth herself. No more waiting around for things to get better. We need to act. We need to wake up.
