Hi friends, it's a pleasure to participate in this new #weekend-engagement edition organised by @galenkp.
To think about what objects I would put in a time capsule for the inhabitants of this world 200 years from now, if we humans do not become extinct first, I have put myself in the place where I would send 3 versatile and self-feeding objects.
Object 1: A sack with various vacuum-packed seeds.
Because I believe that in a few decades the soils will have become overly polluted, with climate change there will be a lot of droughts, and in turn there will be an increased number of diseases in plant species, it is quite possible that certain plant species will have disappeared.
For example, let's imagine that there was a disease that affected all the corn or wheat plantations like you have.
If corn and wheat, which are the two most widely used cereals, have disappeared, there will have been great famines as the two main sources of flour production have disappeared.
How many products are made with flour?
Bread, pasta, cookies, etc.
Imagine those people of the future opening the capsule and discovering wheat and corn seeds and being able to sow them again in areas free of plant diseases and contamination. New grains, flours would be produced again and they would be able to make bread for the first time.
Can you imagine that person eating bread for the first time or making their first pasta dish?
I think they would be eternally grateful to discover those seeds.
Object 2: A firearm
In the event that I could travel to the future, I would like to open the capsule and find a firearm such as a rifle with its corresponding bullets.
I imagine that due to the food crisis that I mentioned before, there must be several conflicts to get food, so the firearm could have several uses.
A first use could be to be able to be used to hunt wild species such as wild boars.
These wild boars would be an excellent source of protein and at the same time with very little fat compared to other animal species. At the same time, its flavor, although intense for those of us who like game meat, is spectacular.
Although I do not like violence at all, I suppose that the lack of food could cause many people to try out of desperation to take the food that someone else has hunted. For this reason, that person in the future who discovered the capsule and inside it a 30-06 Winchester rifle would have an additional way to defend himself.
Finally, if this catastrophic vision were not a reality and abundance and peace reigned, which I doubt very much given today's society, the person who discovered this well-preserved rifle in the capsule could have a collector's jewel and be able to trade it and exchange it for a few HIVE, which would obviously be the official currency on planet Earth.
Object 3: Fishing Kit
The third of the objects, which would also be very useful in order to be self-sufficient after being able to grow cereals and other grains and to hunt species for meat, would be a fishing kit to catch delicious fish as long as mankind had not destroyed all the animal life in the oceans.
I imagine that the person who would open my time capsule would see in this kit a unique opportunity to catch their own fresh fish.
I imagine that the person who was eating their own caught fish for the first time would feel proud of themselves for being able to catch those fish and if they were good enough to feed their family, their friends, their community.
Final reflection
As you can see, my capsule is loaded with elements aimed at being self-sufficient to be able to get food in a pessimistic situation, because of the scarcity of food or because of how poorly distributed it might be.
These circumstances of inequality and famine already exist today. Therefore, with the writing of this post and seeing my reflections, let's think about how not to destroy the planet and give resources to poor countries to develop and avoid reaching desperate situations that will only bring wars and famine.
Best regards and have a good weekend.
