Fishing and orchids down Brisbane Water way : October 11 2026
Got a different day lined up. Meeting one of my wife's colleagues to go go fishing. Not done that for a while - on a tinny (Oz speak for a small boat)
View from the boat ramp
First fish landed - out host did all the work and was clad in total skin cover against the sun. No risk of tying a lure with sunscreen hands
Did a few passes along the edge of the sea grass beds. When I shaped up to get the tree stump photo, the cormorant was resting - it flew off but made the photo
Sea grass beds are close to Dangar Island
Unfolding views of the railway bridge. Did see a few trains - passenger and cargo but no photos
Wider angle view. We had to cut the expedition short as my wife was getting badly seasick. Not a problem as we had caught a few and had two flathead to take home for dinner
Pelican was waiting for the fish filleting - our host did that for us. Pelican got its share
We headed up the hill for coffee and a pie at Pie and Sky - a hot spot for motorbikes. View down to where we were fishing
Picked this spot on the way back as I knew there could be orchids. Found one on the verge beyond where the weed killer had been applied. Golden donkey orchid - diuris aurea
A few other survivors from the weed killer - patersonia iris
Small St Johns Wort - hypericum. Had to look that up
Bottlebrush in full flower
Hard to tell if this is opening or closing but some fab bronze colours
Did a late walk to get steps up. Did watch the last hour of the Bathhurst 1000 motor race - exciting it was
Did cook the flathead for dinner - ingredients lined up. Did the 20 minutes to remove the pin bones. Fish - seasoned flour - beaten egg wash - gluten free bread crumbs. Cooked in shallow fry pan with sunflower oil
Finished product - was yum - served with chips and peas
