Local walks - remnant forest and a few orchids : August 2 2026

My wife headed out early to do some things for her brother. We have a clear day beyond that as her grandson will not be visiting. He is with his mum.

Decided to do a long walk to a slice of bush in East Gordon looping back via Richmond Park. Hoping to find orchids in a path not often walked. Did find staghorns on the way - several in shot

Walked around the edge of Darnley Oval to access the walking track - this kookaburra was happy to pose. Let me walk right past without flying off

The bush below the oval has been subject to a hazard reduction burn - not much chance of orchids

This one will offer up flowers in the summer - large tongue orchid

Walked around the grassy area under the powerlines - also a burned area - no orchids

Time for a little real estate - a few of the old single storey homes

Simple brick houses on one floor

Buy and extend. This one will see a second floor added to the base double brick house

How much old style will remain?

Imagine the uproar all the years ago when this Dutch barn style house was built.

A few in shot. Turned into a big wake with not a lot of orchid action. The hazard reduction burn at the back of the oval sets the orchids back two seasons

My wife had a strata committee meeting at our place. It went on a while. She had snacks for them. I hid as the debate was not pretty. Too late for dinner ideas
