Something of a flower day in and out of friends time : March 6 2026
A different start to the day - heading out to visit long time cycling and orchid friends to pick up cycling gear they want to get rid off. Their cycling days are over - heath and age getting in the way. We had a lovely chat - a lot of sitting around. Was wondering how the steps would build. Do have friends coming over for dinner. That adds steps
Did have to get a few things from the shops - pink hibiscus on the way to the shops
A few flowers from home - first flower on this orchid for the season. Flowers are small - hard to get focus
A few buds forming - will get better shots next time
Not only is lobelia found in the bush - growing wild on our porch
My wife found this flower down the road - this is the flower fully formed.
The flower opens up in ways you would not expect - the green bits start facing down to the ground. Then they start to turn upward and colour goes to red from the green from the points inward
No idea what the ID is
My part of the dinner preps was to cook pork ribs - been in the sous vide seasoned for 24 hours at 148F - finish on the bbq.
Reduce the juices out of the sous vide bags with a mix of Worcestershire sauce, ketjap manis, apple cider vinegar, tomato ketchup, old BBQ sauce, maple syrup, mustard. Got a bit of a salt hit from the miso - egg plant - soy dish my wife made.
Wipe down the ribs with the home-made bbq sauce and trunk over to sear well
Looked good. Was full off the bone tender.
My wife did the hard work creating a vegetarian spread - chickpea and vegetable curry, tomato and basil and bocconcini salad, brocollini and garlic fried. I cooked rice
We had a good evening. Was a late one
