Ohhh I love this post, so much!!!
"Housework beats meditation for me. Every time."
yes!
Down on my knees, scrubbing floors:
what better time to pray, to meditate, to offer up wishes and hopes on behalf of our latest friend with cancer, our struggling sisters, our troubled offspring, our aging parents....

I may have gotten the idea from a last-century book, Diapers, Pacifiers, and Other Holy Things by Lorraine Pintus.

Since then, more young moms have written more books on how we can cultivate a spiritual life a few minutes here and there in the midst of all our daily chaos. Rewilding Motherhood is great. By Shannon K. Evans, whom my daughter SHOULD have met (I believe they attended the same university at the same time).

It's not about religion, saints, or Catholicism - it's about meditating whenever and wherever we can.
owasco@owasco is aware that I wedge in prayers (intentions, kind thoughts, good wishes) for friends like her while walking dogs and reciting a Rosary. "Canned words" maybe - but what is the mantra ("ohm," for one) if not a "canned" word.

This!

on the one hand, you've got the men who still put housework down as "the woman's business", and then you've got the feminists telling you not to touch that shit with a ten-foot pole.

My more mystical moments (if I have any) come to me in the evening after dinner, at the sink, washing dishes. Standing, eyes wide open, I can drift into REM sleep.

This needs to go viral!

Meditation is used to keep you in the present moment. To keep your barging, overwhelming thoughts at bay. To keep you focused on your breath, your body, your here and now. For me, that's housework.

Bless you!!!
