Yes! First, your photo is amazing, and I wonder if you snapped it or photoshopped it yourself.
Nights on the porch after dinner, watching wheels/whatever go by. Farmers in my childhood did that. (Not my parents.) As an adult in a neighborhood years later, I almost never saw people on their porches. Too busy. All of us too busy. Except me. I have time to write letters by hand and create online groups to unite family members or author friends, or I join groups someone else created for native plant fanatics or .... oh wait, now I remember why I'm replying to myjob@myjob's comment: she pulled the two lines that stood out the most to me as well. "Making it all about me." And ...
I've tried tried tried to make good use of my time and be a good person, but I self-destruct and pull others into this vortex of insanity (or so I'm told). Instead of being told how awful I am, couldn't people hear me when I say "Please let me know if I'm offending; I don't want to be the toxic family member everyone shuns" -
Time. Family. Lost Loved Ones.
Sitting with someone, sipping tea in synchrony.
Come sit beside me, come, stay awhile,
no words necessary,
your presence, your acknowledgment that I exist, will be more than enough,
it'll be more than I dare ask of all the busy people
Why am I not busy enough to shut out the need to engage others
Why do I think
Why do I wonder
Why am I here
Because, sometimes, someone
throws me a bone, a scrap, and I seize on it,
and I get the idea that I do matter, that I must hang in there to the end.
Oh what hubris!
Heading outside into the November sun now, with the dogs.
Tonight, an eclipse to watch for, the Beaver moon, the heavens above
The sun will turn off the nightlight, dim the moon, but only for a few minutes
(not for another three years will we be eclipsed again)
The light will return, as it always does: watch,
Wait for it,
watch...
Sorry owasco@owasco. You can see your words moved me - far too much movement, sorry.
Thank you for this, and know that you and your son are very much in my heart.
Into the November sunshine I go now
