I'm happy to see the disclaimer that this is fiction. :)
Sooo many people hold onto a happy memory and feel they will never again know such happiness without the person they remember so fondly. Make new memories, meet new people, LET GO, treasure the good memories but live in the now, not in the past, and never trust promises of FOREVER.... how easily I could spout the conventional wisdom while failing to internalize it myself.

This is a lovely story, with polished, poetic prose, vivid, memorable - well done!

P.S. so many women I know have been courted, seduced, and promised eternal love, it is kinda refreshing for me to see that guys, too, sometimes suffer this sad fate. Some people are collectors. It's all about the conquest, then the "ghosting" and the next conquest...
