This is only your second attempt at "haibun," and you've produced this masterpiece?
You never cease to amaze me.
The haiku usually ends the poem as a sort of whispery and insightful postscript to the prose of the beginning of the poem
Mission accomplished!
The squirrel (your breeze stirring its fur = "hair blowing in the wind" like a stallion's mane for me) - what a visual!! And the bird parents, the scent of acorn (and truffles), but somehow, this line grabs me and forces me to think:
A pig, searching for truffles at the base of the apple tree, unerringly follows its instructions.
Instinct. A pig doesn't ask questions or oppose directives. This pig *** unerringly follows*** the imperative of instinct, of whatever our DNA's coding "instructs" us to do. Ok, I've grabbed the ball and tried to run with it, but I'm tripping over those apple tree roots and the ball bounced out of reach.
But it was fun to "go there" and live in this poem! Thanks @owasco!
