Ok, I really was focusing on that "clue," believe it or not - yes, I've seen and loved Salieri suggesting Mozart took dictation from God, and I've read of the Muses (nine, all female), and the idea we mortal create nothing on our own; we take inspiration from the Muses. Beethoven, DaVinci, all fed by a Muse. I read about this in The War of Art by Steven Pressfield and found it a rather disturbing concept - that ideas exist outside ourselves and we do not "invent" or create; we only discover what already is, and that's if a Muse grants us this inspiration or insight. I may have gotten Pressfield all wrong. Of course I did. I always do. It happened that I was reading Anthony deMello at the same time as I we-wrote this piece, and Elsa wanting to know what Edgar saw when he shouted Phantom! did suggest to me a Muse, who inspired his music, but... well, if I'm explaining what I wrote, I clearly did not convey what I intended. I didn't intend entirely new characters. Again, this is why We-Writes initimdate me. What if @owaco intended Edgar to be a big ego who thrives on adoring tourists invading his home to experience more of him beyond his music? What if he was a jerk to Elsa?
It's a tribute to Owasco's writing that we ponder it to this degree. Edgar: "....after those outbursts he intensely composed music. What did it have to do with his love for Else? Mozart also loved his wife Constanze, but his musical inspiration by far didn’t come from her." Yes. We agree on that. I was thinking of Elsie as a bit of a Salieri, unable to grasp the nature of the Muse.
