For this shoot we decided to resort to a single type of lighting that came from the external flash of the camera, in order to achieve a high contrast lighting with overexposure. All this with the intention of highlighting the makeup and looking for a different style than the pictures we usually take. Wilfredo prefers to highlight textures, expression and spontaneity. I wanted to use several fixed poses, the artificiality of it and distort a little the reality of that image.

Para esta sesión fotográfica decidimos recurrir a un solo tipo de iluminación que provenía del flash externo de la cámara, para poder lograr una iluminación de alto contraste con la sobreexposición. Todo esto con la intención de resaltar el maquillaje y buscar un estilo diferente al de las fotografías que usualmente tomamos. Wilfredo prefiere resaltar las texturas, la expresión y la espontaneidad. Yo quise utilizar varias poses fijas, lo artificial de la misma y distorsionar un poco la realidad de esa imagen.
The compositional elements of photography are in the creation of spaces and closures to give more weight or not to this. The use of the range of grays as well defined lights and shadows. As in the photograph I present below, where with hands closed in prayer, the gaze is directed towards the sky (limit of the picture and my person) and the posture itself creates an isosceles triangle (it may represent the Divine Trinity). The space created generates a visual journey that allows the viewer to interpret that there is something that is observed but does not appear in the photograph.
Los elementos compositivos de la fotografía están en la creación de espacios y cierres para otorgar más peso o no a este. El uso de la gama de grises como luces y sombras bien definidas. Cómo en la fotografía que presento a continuación, dónde con las manos cerradas en señal de oración, la mirada se dirige hacia el cielo (límite del cuadro y mi persona) y la postura en si misma crea un triángulo isósceles (puede representar a la Divina Trinidad). El espacio creado genera un recorrido visual que permite al espectador interpretar que hay algo que se observa pero que no aparece en la fotografía.
The following photographs are some of my favorites. It is linked to the above described, where the figure seems to live an ecstasy. This state is described in several religions as a meeting point between the person and the divinity. It can even mean an encounter with nature itself. But it does not have to be limited to this. I can also describe it as the peak moment I experience when I sing. The connection between music and myself.
Las siguientes fotografías son unas de mis favoritas. Va ligado a lo anteriormente descrito, dónde la figura parece vivir un éxtasis. Este estado es descrito en varias religiones como un punto de encuentro entre la persona y la divinidad. Incluso puede significar un encuentro con la naturaleza misma. Pero no tiene porqué cernirse solo a ello. Puedo describirlo también como el momento cúspide que experimento cuando canto. La conexión entre la música y mi persona.
This photograph is one of the few that we place with a central frame. The finger pointing, the somber and tenacious expression. It almost seems as if I am pointing at the viewer looking at the photograph, as a way of making him or her part of the work. It is also reminiscent of pointing at someone guilty. In this case, I felt the need to express how at certain times I have been singled out because of the way I dress, make up and look. This time I point in the form of protest, a "why do you keep watching if you are so uncomfortable with me".
Esta fotografía es una de las pocas que colocamos con un encuadre central. El señalamiento que realizo con el dedo, la expresión sombría y tenaz. Casi parece que estuviera señalando al espectador que observa la fotografía, como una forma de hacerlo parte de la obra. Recuerda también a la forma en que se señala a alguien culpable. En este caso, sentí la necesidad de expresar cómo en ciertos momentos he sido señalada por mi forma de vestir, maquillar y ser. Está vez señalo en forma de protesta, un "porque sigues observando si te incómoda tanto mi persona".
Here are some others that we have taken to have a series of standard images that simply have an aesthetic function. I would like to highlight the fact that these photographs are linked to the concept of Divinity and Darkness. Through softened skins, dark atmosphere, a lot of light on the figure, an effect on the skin so that it looks almost like porcelain, like a doll. The mundane and the unattainable divinity.
Aquí les dejo algunas otras que hemos tomado para tener una serie de imágenes estándares que simplemente tienen una función estética. Quisiera resaltar el hecho de que estás fotografías van unidos al concepto de Divinidad y Oscuridad. A través de pieles suavizadas, atmósfera oscura, mucha luz en la figura, un efecto en la piel para que está luzca casi como el de la porcelana, como una muñeca. Lo mundano y la inalcanzable divinidad.
