One of the greatest mistakes one can make in life is living a life without goals, a life without dreams.
For me, since I was a child I have loved sports. My favorites are racing and football, you see there's a similarity between those sports because for one to play football, one has to run.
But between the two sports, football is my best. I can remember how many times my parents have thought I went missing just because I followed my mates to far places to play with people we called “professionals”, people from a football academy.
Thinking of how I got to liking racing, I would say it became deeply rooted in me back then when we used to playfully hunt and mark squirrels at the orchard. But for football, I would say it's inborn, I loved football from my mom's “womb”, lol.
The times I played these sports were in my primary and high school days. Now in the tertiary institution, there are more academic activities than sports.
Back then in high school, I was the “cheetah” of the school and I represented my school in many racing and football competitions. Due to a lack of time for extracurricular activities, I no longer have much time these days to play football and or do some sprint practice with friends.
But I do practice my favorite sports.
I would love to share with everyone how I made myself and my parents proud when I won almost all the awards during the Inter-house sports competition organized in my high school back then. During the Inter-house sports, students are grouped into different houses ( green, red, blue, orange and yellow). I belonged to Greenhouse and I was the only sprinter and good footballer in the house, others were good though but not as I am. It's often said, “Practice makes perfect”, I used to practice my sprint every morning before going to take a bath back then in the dormitory and this helped me improve my speed while playing football and racing.
I used to be a very timid boy in terms of playing with or moving objects. I didn't even trust my dad whenever he carried me on his bicycle. Guess what! I told myself that I would never travel by plane, I would rather devise a safer means of transportation for any journey I want to embark on, but that was in my “foolishness” times, times of ignorance and young age. Now I'm a “man”, lol. I used to be afraid of climbing a bicycle but my testimony now is that I have a tag from the cycling community on Hive. I can ride bikes of different sizes and heights and do stunts and skills. Very amazing.
Cycling is one other sport I do and do regularly. It's a sport that never interferes with other of my routines. I can't visit the field to play football or sprint around the tracks but I can always ride my bike to and fro, from home to anywhere and back home.
It is a sport I would never regret ever practicing as it helps me in so many ways, from muscle build-up to burning calories and achieving better health.
To answer the last question in the prompt;
What's the most hilarious sports news you have heard?
I would say it's about a man, who managed to sneak into the pitch after a football match, intentionally slumped and everyone came to help him. When he found out his girlfriend was there too, he grabbed the opportunity to propose in the presence of his football role model and fellow fans. The girlfriend could never afford to reject his proposal, he caught the moment rightly.
Thanks for reading. I feel that I need to just compliment myself because I'm wonderful. It's the best way to keep moving, by complimenting oneself.
