What's up dear Splinterlands and Hive community!

BTC is up (again) to $30k, DEC climbing slowly to PEG, Hive holding a solid price at 42cents and hopefully SPS will start picking up the space and get out of the 3cents range... So This week's Battle Mage Secrets is Broken Arrows, a really interesting Ruleset...

Broken Arrows

Icon
Description
  • Ranged attack Monsters may NOT be used in battles
  • Leaving only Melee & Magic to be used!

The Ruleset is straightforward. Summoners with Ranged Attack Manipulation like General Sloan, Contessa L'ament and more & less Quix The Devious won't have an impact in these kind of battles.

As for Abilities, we can divide them into 2 parts

Offensive Abilities
Defensive Abilities

The key to succeed in the Ruleset is to try to balance between the Offensive and Defensive while trying to predict which composition the Enemy will pick!

Or going on a Full-Counter Mode by picking one of these monsters (if you got the budget 😂) + An Amplify Monster

Price: $141
Price: $126

Into The Battle!

We got a high Mana battle 49 Mana with 3 Elements available: Life, Earth and Dragon. The most common compositions that a Regular Silver Player will pick would be:

  • Obsidian + Magic Spam Monsters
  • Lorna Shine + Melee Sneak Monsters

However since we already got Holy Protection Ruleset, the choice is obvious.
By checking enemy's last 5 battles, my opinion will more likely go for a Magic Spam composition which I was totally ready to counter it:

CardsDescription
My only Regret is not buying this Legendary Earth Summoner when its price dropped to $16! Void will cut by half the upcoming Magic Damage and Shatter will get rid of any heavy Armor monster that I'm facing!
My Main Damage Dealer, 10 Health makes it great for the Tank Position (besides Void from Immortalis) in addition to a total of 6 Melee damage w/ Double Strike.
Double Strike will get rid of the Divine Shield + proc Shatter on the 1st strike and directly hit enemy's Health the 2nd Strike
For a Support Card, Decent Health and Decent Magic Damage without the need of Obsidian buff, I've picked this Monster to keep healing my Frontliner and Damage Dealer with Tank Heal for +3 Health per turn
A 2nd Support Card, lower base stats than Goblin Psychic but that additional Speed will Heal my Grund Faster with Tank Heal for (again) +3 Health per turn
What's better than halving the upcoming Magic Damage: Reducing it with Silence! And making them deal ZERO damage to my team! (if only left with 1 Magic Damage)
I've got enough Mana to spare on this Recharge Monster that can deliver a whopping 6 Magic Damage every other Round
For this composition to work, Taunt is a must to direct all the damage and keep Grund safe, Slipspawn fits perfectly for this job with 11 Health (+ Void + Silence) to face all the upcoming Magic Damage! If only I've added Triage to make it Immortal!

Round 1

r1.PNG

It was as I expected: Enemy went for a Magic Spam Team with Unicorn Mustang as a Tank and somehow a couple of fancy gold foil cards! So this is after a series of Buffs (Obsidian +1 Magic) and Debuffs (Immortalis -1 Health & Mushroom Seer Silence)

In this battle, consider Regal Perygon, Venari Spellsmith and Elven Mystic (having only 1 Magic attack) as useless as long as Mushroom seer is alive.

Round 2

r2.PNG

  • **Grund launching a barrage of 6 Melee attack to Unicorn Mustang that meets its end by Suidae Shaman Recharge attack
  • Enemy Mycelic Slipspawn was eliminated at half the 2nd Round by Mushroom Seer
  • Ally Goblin Psychic was victorious in the mirror match by eliminated his underleveled copy!
  • Notice that Ally Mycelic SlipSpawn didn't love a single health during this round.

Round 3

r3.PNG

  • Only the 3 useless Monsters are left!
  • Enemy Regal Peryton surely managed to evade Grund barrage of attacks but couldn't escape the upcoming Magic damage to meet its end

Round 4

r4.PNG

The battle is pretty much over to seal a perfect victory against to ever abused Magic Spam composition netting some juicy SPS rewards:

What if I faced the other Team (Melee Sneak)

I've run a custom battle on https://splintertools.io/ facing a similar composition to mine (Taunt + Melee Sneak focus) and this was the result:

rrr.PNG

I'm still having the upper hand by a Large Margin 97% vs 3%
It's mostly because we're playing in Holy Protection Ruleset leading to Lorna Shine losing its major advantage in this battle, nevertheless that composition is really OP!

Any changes I can make on my team?

Probably a couple of changes in my opinion (let me know in the comment if you guys got a better suggestion!):

  • Switching one of the Tank Heal Monster with a Triage Monster like Spirit Hoarder to Heal and sustain my Taunt Monster as long as possible
  • Switching Sundae Shaman but a Reach Monster for higher constant damage.

Good luck Have Fun on your Splinterlands Battles!
