Hi everyone, how are you? I hope you are all doing well. Today, I will discuss the Lurking Puffer, a notable Common Monster from the Rebellion Edition of the Earth unit in Splinterlands. Although this card might seem ordinary, its low mana cost and special ability make it quite effective under specific battle rulesets. Lurking Puffer can play a valuable role as an additional defensive unit, especially in low-mana battles. Let’s dive into the details of this card.

The Lurking Puffer is a Common Earth unit belonging to the Rebellion Edition. The most appealing feature of this card is its low mana cost of just 2. At Level 1, it has no attack, a speed of 1, and 5 health. Its most significant ability is "Corrosive Ward"; when a melee attack strikes the Lurking Puffer, the attacking unit's armor is affected, reducing both its current armor and its maximum armor by 2. In other words, even though the Lurking Puffer does not attack directly, it plays a crucial indirect role in countering the opponent's melee attackers.

As the Lurking Puffer levels up, it offers increased utility. At Level 5, it gains the Silence ability. Silence reduces the Magic Attack of all opposing Magic Attackers by 1, making it particularly effective against magic-heavy teams; for instance, if an opponent fields multiple Magic Monsters, the Lurking Puffer's Silence can help curtail their damage output. Additionally, at higher levels, the Lurking Puffer acquires the Poison ability. When triggered by an attack, Poison causes the target to sustain extra damage at the start of the following round. Generally, the Lurking Puffer fits well into Earth teams where other monsters handle the primary damage dealing. It is important to remember that the Lurking Puffer's role is not solely to deal damage; rather, it supports the team through defensive utility, armor disruption, and at higher levels magic reduction.
However, the use of the Lurking Puffer primarily depends on the battle's ruleset and your team composition. For instance, its 2-mana cost can be highly advantageous in low-mana battles; if you have a small amount of mana left after selecting your primary monster and support units, the Lurking Puffer can fill that slot. This card can also serve as a secondary tank. Battle analyses show examples of it being successfully deployed in the second position for this role; once the lead tank falls, the Lurking Puffer can step forward to absorb damage and reduce a melee attacker's armor via its Corrosive Ward ability. Furthermore, its defensive utility becomes even more significant when facing an opponent's team heavily reliant on melee monsters.

To conclude, my personal opinion on this card is that the Lurking Puffer a Common Earth unit in Splinterlands, derives its primary strength from its low 2-mana cost, 5 Health, and the Corrosive Ward ability. Its utility increases further as it gains Silence and Poison at higher levels. It is particularly worth experimenting with the Lurking Puffer in low-mana battles, the secondary tank position, and melee-heavy scenarios. After all, high-attack cards aren't the only ones that matter in Splinterlands; deploying the right defensive or utility unit at the right moment is a crucial part of a winning strategy. Thus, despite its low mana cost, the Lurking Puffer is a strategically valuable Earth unit. I will wrap up my thoughts on the card here. Thank you, everyone.
