I cannot believe I have been playing Splinterlands for a year now! Twelve months ago I came to Splinterlands wanting to learn more about the blockchain, crypto and maybe earn a little something as well. I've accomplished this and managed to find much more in the process. I've discovered a great community and a game I still enjoy playing daily.
Where I started
This time last year I happened to come across an article, I cannot recall where now, describing the authors roughly year long journey in Splinterlands. I like the idea of playing a new game, but what drew mw in was the connection to crypto. My knowledge of the space was limited and I was looking to gain a better understanding of what it entailed.
I started the first week playing for free and wasn't sure if I would dive in and purchase the spell book. I was a confusing first week as I attempted to understand the cards abilities, what CP was all about and how to even get money into the game if I decided I wanted to start making the investment.
After a week of play I realized I enjoyed the game enough that I was willing to at least purchase the spell book and call it a $10 loss if my interest fizzled. Lucky for me I'm still enjoying the gameplay and don't regret the decision.
A lot to learn
After buying the spell book I quickly realized that even just getting some money into the game was going to be a learning experience. I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but it was exactly the toss into the deep end of the pool I needed to get my crypto journey started.
I wish I could tell a beginner just getting started that Splinterlands has an easy learning curve, but that is not the case. What I can say after a year of playing however is that the journey is worth it. Not only am I now versed (I will not say well-versed) in the crypto world, but I am also enjoying playing, and earning, a fun game daily.
Reflection
I was fortunate to join Splinterlands a short time before Chaos Legion was released. The interesting thing I recall reading at the time was that the SPlinterlands ship has sailed and it was not possible to earn anymore. I can say that this harsh criticism didn't hold up. Not only do I still enjoy logging in daily and playing, but I'm earning as well.
I part of a great guild, I have several splinters maxed out for the Silver league and I am regularly playing in the Modern Gold league. I'm excited to see how my game play and the game itself grown over the next year.
