I swear it's like
I'm in your '93 black Honda Civic again,
it smells like cigarettes, damp air,
& wet pavements.
I'm in the back seat. Reflections
won't even reach your rear view
mirror. You never notice what's
going on unless it's about you.
You can't see my suffering
because you're driving 85MPH
on the damn freeway as if your tires
were a spark away from lighting you
into freedom.
You roll up a joint and blast X103.9
on the radio. To be honest the desert
does put on its best at night but you only
focus on showing the worst parts of you.
We don't chit chat or anything. I'm wishing
I stayed home. I always like following you
when you let me. That's as much as I'll ever
possibly know about you the places you go
or never make it to.
Just once, please? I'd wish you'd stop
to look at me, so you can realize how you
fucked up, and missed out. You don't know
what I'm about.
You turned your cheeked, covered your eyes,
and didn't watch me grow up like you promised.
You're blind. I'm wiser. We're nothing.
Only blood ties us and our mother.
Just once, please? Admit it.
I'm right you're wrong.
You fuck up. I just stick around
for the ride to watch. Don't I brother?
What are we now? What will we ever be?

I decided to share some of my poetry from junior & senior year in high school. Which would be from 2011-2012. I wrote these for my Creative Writing classes. I just wanted to show how tone, style, and voice changes in writing only when the writer is mindful of taking his or her practice seriously. Or even when the writer goes through radical life changing events that force upon maturity and growth . This only enables one to take on new subject matters that were not topics he or she once explored. I hope you enjoy! I kind of find it weird now reading these poems written when I was 16/17. However, I do want to highly emphasize you should never burn any of your work. NEVER. Every old archive of your own material is data that showcases the cocoon you emerged from. Poetry written in my high school years will be identified with a * in each title. I also will apologize if any of these do sound like a ranting teenager.
