This post contains references to drug use and experiences of a psychedelic nature.

If you turn your nose up at this, I would recommend reading it. Find comfort in the fact that I'll still get a good nights sleep if you lose some respect for me.

It was New Years Eve, four years ago...

The bells rang out and everyone was celebrating at the pub, mildly pissed and having a wonderful time. There were no taxis available so I made the decision to walk the five miles back to my house with a few sausage rolls and a handful of baby carrots in my jacket pockets (thanks go out to the lavish buffet table). It was winter, it was cold, boohoo.

Did I make it back to the house within a couple of hours? Who knows, but I made it back in one piece eventually. As I was on the last leg of my journey my brain reminded me that there was a considerable quantity of something back at home which was hidden because of a quite rowdy gathering from the previous week (a story for another day).

Of course, I spent thirty minutes looking around the empty house for the contents and eventually located its whereabouts. The first morning of the new year was about to get wobbly.

To refrain from coming across as anything less than a distinguished and well-refined gentleman, I'll be replacing a certain activity with the idea of "having a lollipop".

With the bag of mind-altering lollipops now in my possession, I set myself down on the luxurious high-pile rug in the living room on top of the enormous beanbag. My flatmate had an Alexa thing that I nabbed (which ended up coming in very handy) for some musical variety.

All set and ready to go, at probably about 3-4 am, it was time for blast off.

Lollipop numero uno

Within 20 seconds, the floor, rug, and beanbag below me turned into space.

Completely cosmic and floating. I can remember concentrating my thoughts on my father and attempting to project an image of him into the space. The image was about 90% complete and from above my head a huge giant metal claw swooped down and slashed it away. Back to reality.

Lollipop #3 or #4?

I was feeling experimental so I decided to place my phone against the couch, setting it to video record. At the time, I was sure that the lollipop was ineffective. Looking back now with more knowledge I know this was the double-slit experiment at work.

Lollipop #5 - #?

These lollipops were the stepping stones into the darkness. It's something that can't be explained unless you've felt it. Suffice it to say, it's wobbly and not for the faint of heart (especially if you feel like someones going to come into your house and blast your head off with a shotgun).

At some point during this inter-dimensional travel, I erupted with a bellowing roar of "NO!" and was snapped back to reality.

The final lollipop

After the previous experience, it would probably be wise to leave that lollipop in the sweet box. Well, that's what an amateur of the mind would assume... (I joke, I had no fucking idea what would happen next).

I finished the last lollipop, sat crossed legs and held my feet, closed my eyes, and just sat there still for the duration. My arms pulsated, I felt what can only be described as "some kind of life force" flow through my body and the "earth" (the rug really), and I flew through my mind/dimension/ihavenoidea completely at one with myself and what was there around me.

Gently opening my eyes, my mind sobered, I was awake and calm. I've never felt that good in my life before and I can remember how amazing my body felt and how clear my mind was.

Bizarre? I'd say so. It was a totally sobering experience and something I'll never forget. Maybe not the way most people would start the year... each to their own.
