The price would plummet and I don't know how long it would take to recover.
I think this is exactly the reason why it should be done. 
Right now, only the 'rich' are going to be able to buy-in. These are people who are used to the ways that HIVE/STEEM/LEO currently operate, which is big stakes fuel each other, low stakes suck up. With a large sell-off the price could bottom out and more voices looking for change can move into the fold.
Otherwise, we're just going to see more accounts with the capital able to buy up larger stakes and history will repeat itself. Distribution across the board is crucial.
