While I was out the other morning for a walk, cruising along the street without a care in the world, I fell into an exchange of sight that I didn't see coming.
It wasn't the woman of my dreams or anything like that. No... I was stared down by a little kid.
This young lad must have only been about three years old, sitting in his pushchair eating a biscuit and watching the world go by as his mother squatted down in front of him.
I walked past, and I decided to stare this kid down for some reason. It wasn't like I was gritting my teeth and scrunching my eyes, I was just gazing as I went past, reading his facial expression.
He just stared and had this quizzical look upon his face as we both held eye contact for a few seconds. There was no way this little guy was backing down. I'm not sure why he found me so interesting, but after I experienced what can only be described as "someone looking deep into my soul", I couldn't stop thinking about how his own mind ticks and processes all the information given to it.
That expression on his face and my own understanding of his naive youth shook me. Such a fresh mind so bewildered by the world presented before it.
This exchange got me thinking about the "power of knowledge", and I guess the "power of perception", as I walked back to the flat.
We're all products of our engagements and environments in some way or another. Our childhoods shape parts of our being and our daily existence further shapes the future.
As adults, we have the freedom of choice (for the most part) which allows us to be more cautious when introducing new influences to our lives.
When I look at the Word of the Week contest in its current state and the activity present on it, I wonder how the knowledge gained will shape my own future in the years to come.
Without the perception of reading to learn as to further my own knowledge of others and myself, the information absorbed may be twisted and provide mixed results.
If someone is reading the posts from this week about the word "power", but they are doing so from the position of "only reading to figure out how to write a passable comment", what are the potential neurological changes that may occur?
(I'm not going to attempt to answer this, I know my limits).
If we take the Proof Of Brain and DPOS (Delegated Proof of Stake) pairings as an example (not the community/platform as such), the saying "knowledge is power" can quite literally be translated.
Prove your knowledge -> Gain recognition -> Power up
This is a significant cog in the Proof Of Brain mechanism (barring creativity, expression, authenticity, personality, etc) because it makes the most sense in terms of why someone would receive rewards. If you can show that you have knowledge of a subject and you can present it in a way that provides value to others, either in the way of new learning or approval, you'll discover that the outcome is power (in one way or another).
I hope this paragraph above is challenged.
Spending the time to understand the environment you're in and familiarising yourself with those who are present is the best step forward. Remain genuinely interested in others and seek out the truth.
Power is a by-product of your senses and what you decide to do with them. It can be used to further yourself and others, it can also be used to stagnate and destroy.
Your own knowledge and perception will determine where your own power will be directed.
