My rainy road trip continues at Greece.
Meteora Kalambaka.
A Monument of UNESCO world heritage.
Their name is due to the Seint Athanasios the Metoritis, who gave them that name when he claimed first to a big flat stone at 1344.
It's a very religious and holy place filled with monasteries that are build on the top of the mountains.
Thanks to their morphology, during the Ottoman rule was an ideal retreat for monasticism and saved monuments of civilization and art works of after Byzantine times. In the early 19th century many monasteries were ravaged by Ali Pasha's army.

Crafted lake and waterfalls “the Covered” Velvento Kozanis.
The legend tells that in this magnificent place Artemis (Goddess of war) went there and hunt accompanied by panniers Nymphs. One of them Vendo was so enchanted by the dreamy beauty of the landscape that she decided to take root here and hunt in their deep forests. She threw her arrows in the fertile land and when some Latinos settlers arrived later thought that it was a divine sign. Build there a village and called it Velvendo.
The Covered is the gorge of the nine muses of Pierias.
The myth says that they went down to swim and dance.
Ancient Hesiod in his writing work Theogony recounts, the Mnemosyne slept in Pieria with the son of Saturn ( Zeus) and gave birth to these virgins that make us forget our pains. Their names are Cleo, Efterpi, Thalia, Melpomeni, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Kalliopi.
