I'm entering another #portraitcontest! The theme this time around is Male Portraits. I've got a few to share but I'll start with this one!
I took this shot of @mstafford a few years ago, hence the short hair and baby face. I was playing with my newly-purchased second-hand behemoth studio lights, learning how to use them. At the time, I was pretty obsessed with the concept of LOTS of light and complicated studio setups. That aint me anymore but we both still really love this shot.
IF I remember correctly, I had a rectangular softbox as the main light, camera left, and my two Canon speedlites as edgelights on either side. Looking back, I should have backed those off quite a bit. I was shooting at f/22 for goodness sake. But I can see now that this shot became an important part of my learning process.
