Violence has become one of the most discussed topics globally. Whether against women, men, or children. However, the latest turn of events involves Callaway Golf and Good Good Golf, where the latter's Co-founder was seen in an advert pushing a golfer to the ground after she was seen calling his new Callaway driver. The ad's title is " Driver'.
This video generated public criticism and cries of violence against women globally and, within a few minutes, was deleted by the company while they also tendered apologies and carried out further damage control measures to ameliorate the colossal damage the ad has caused both firms.
Furthermore, Callaway terminated their partnership with Good Good Golf and donated some millions of dollars to firms fighting violence against women.
However, the question is: was a wrong message sent? Who approved, and were there measures of scrutiny before the ad's release? Findings revealed that Callaway approved, but there are claims of unclear processes and procedures for approval and release. I learnt that Callaway released the advert without bad intention, not fully aware of the twist in the ad. This, I believe, is the reason they terminated their partnership with Good Good Golf Company.
Looking at the turn of events, it seems the ad was an intention that turned sour. I wouldn't think a company with such a reputation and the level of support they have given to vulnerable people would want to be in such a situation.
Now that the deed is done, the company should go out on all fronts to redeem its image and evolve towards making the society a place where all genders can thrive, beginning with women.
Furthermore, international organisations like UNICEF, celebrities, social platforms, and the government should do more to support the vulnerable in society.
Curbing Violence At Home
In conclusion, Rome was not built in a day; I believe strongly that a society that is free from violence against women is possible, starting from our homes where children are taught to respect each other's rights, and where people, irrespective of their status, are held accountable for their wrongs.
In the end, we build a society and a global village that respects not only women but each other while co-existing peacefully.
