Change is constant. Experience is also a good teacher. As we grow into different stages of life, the experiences we gather along our life journey help shape the kind of person we become. It also shapes our thoughts, our patience, and our reactions.
Sometimes, an individual may grow up as a loud person living a luxurious and reckless spending lifestyle, going to and throwing parties around, playing rough, not minding the result, but as time goes on and responsibilities increase, the experiences over time may begin to change the person. Some experiences, whether the good, bad, or ugly, may humble the person and curtail all the excesses as the individual advances in age and matures.
In my early career, people used to approach me to borrow funds, and I would give them. However, at some point, some of them started holding the funds and would not refund them as agreed. It turned into an issue that nearly escalated to physical assault, so I stopped. That experience taught me to avoid being too lenient, cherish myself, and appreciate peace of mind.
Growing Up
Again, I used to believe and trust people easily until I was betrayed and blackmailed by someone I deeply held close to my heart. That experience nearly pushed me to bitterness. I stopped believing people easily until I made the necessary findings.
Those experiences changed and shaped my thoughts and made me a better person, not just growing older. Sometimes, you may see a teen who acts and behaves more maturely than an elderly person. On the other hand, you may also see an elderly person behaving like a child. The crux of the matter is experience and our ability/flexibility to learn from such experiences and improve ourselves.
Matured Decision Maker
Advancing in age does not necessarily mean that it has made me better, but the experiences I have amassed over time in my life journey, in various degrees, have shaped me into living a quiet life, prioritising my health, cherishing my peace, spending more time with my family and friends, and minding my business. These are all that matter to me right now as we transcend this life.
