The first and last time I tried home-brew was at University and that ended with one person in hospital and two near comatose for two days straight - slightly more of the sugar turned to Alcohol then expected but I blame them for downing pints of the stuff it was far more suited to very small shot glasses. After deciding it was too dangerous for human consumption the remainder made a VW Beatle run like a beast for a few weeks!
