Wild Mushrooms (Hericium erinaceus)
Common Name (Lions Mane Mushroom)
Discaimer: As with any wild plant or fungus you should never eat it until you can positively identify with 100% accuracy what species you have. The main reason for this is the real and present danger of poisoning yourself and dying a painfully horrible death. That being said wild mushrooms and plants when done right can be a great tasting and healthy addition to ones diet. Do your own research, And be extra sure you know what your putting in your mouth.
Found this one on a standing dead white oak tree on the homestead Jan 19 2018.
I have been wanting to try this mushroom for years. I had seen in a lot of my Mushroom ID books that it had a taste and texture of lobster or crab meat.. Well being a lover of both of those I was excited to try the mushroom version! The lions mane wasn't disappointing at all in its flavor and texture.
If you ever have the chance to try it yourself.. You really should give it a shot just make sure its cooked thoroughly, or its a little bitter!
