Hello Hive people, I see you and I want to share my workflow on how I modeled this voltage stabilizer in my house.
The softwares I used includes Blender, Photoshop and After Effects ( I use this to make a turn table video from the rendered frames).
I started by getting the dimensions of my voltage stabilizer from online electrical sites and from there I was able to start modeling, I did not have any other information apart from the dimension. I had to take a lot of pictures and I guessed pretty much how it would look inside the device.lol
I spent a couple of hours modeling, trying different modifiers to make sure my work was high end and the polygon count for the mesh was low.
I ended up making some part of the process destructive... this happens a lot with my hard surface modelling. But in the end I was done and it was time to texture some realistic looking model.
I started by adding some noise textures and imperfections to it because most of the times, that's what makes things look photo realistic. This texturing process didn't take as much time as modeling. I just noticed that I needed more processing power because as a new material was added to the mesh, I had to preview it.
It was fun regardless of the stress I was feeling, there's this joy that comes with turning a JPEG or a sketch into 3D. I felt so tired when I was UV Unwrapping, I did this a few times because I wasn't getting it right. But eventually I did.
Lol... I even found out that 8 unwraps were the max for an object then I would switch to texture painting to add more text decals.
This was fun all the way,it was time for lighting and I used to light setups for this, rendered at 4k 1280*720 with a transparent background (png). I rendered about 300 frames for my video (2.5GB).
That's heavy but I finished, the files are just there till I'm ready to make the video and then next time I'll just stick with 2k resolution.
