Smartness is something needed to survive the harsh reality of this world and we have different places where we need to exhibit our smart trait... In school, in the street, in our place of work and also in the society at large....
Just last month, i visited my sister and while we were gisting, she remembered when i graduated from secondary school and picked up a job, i was still a teenager and she was now comparing me with her son who is also now a teenager and is still being pampered by her....
She was like i was not even up to his son age before i have started hustling and she do feel for me then , but i should look at her son who is like me back then or even like a year older and is done with secondary school but have not started earning...
I had to remind her that she can't compare me with her son because i am used to the street life even before i finished schooling, hence why i left home immediately i was done and i was able to fend for myself and also able to cope with life without parent support.. But his own is different, even though he is brilliant but he is not really used to street life and she is also still treating him like a baby and the boy is also enjoying the motherly treatment...
I could have been like her son too but i am a stubborn child that doesn't like to stay indoor back then, i like to go out and mingle with friends so i break free from the cage my mum set for me even though it was not easy, she flogged me alot until i got to senior secondary school class 3 and said enough is enough, i am no longer a baby, leave me alone lol....
People wonder why those who takes first in class during school days have trouble coping outside school life and it is the dullard or average student that end up becoming successful most time...
This is simple, it is good to be brilliant but that only help you with your studies, you need to be intelligent to be able to cope with the street life...
Most of the things we were taught in the school won't even be useful in life, the work you will get may not even have anything to do with what you study but your ability to interact and socialize with others [your colleagues and boss] will help you more...
Don't get me wrong, i am not saying book smartness is useless, it is actually very good to have, being brilliant also have its perk and it can also make you adapt to the street life faster...
Being book smart gives you the brain you need to deal with difficult task in your chosen profession while being street smart is what would help you to be able to deal with the people you are going to come across and also help you on your way to the top because there are many obstacles along that way...
It is best to have both smartness as they are important....and someone who possess both will have a smooth ride than those who only possess one of it...
