A street brother of mine that we have known for many years would say, I was living a boring lifestyle as I don't like to attend parties or even stay out for long, he would be like, " I am missing a lot but I told him I miss nothing. I am also having the fun of my life indoors..
He was the one who made me love going out and buying clothes a bit, I will admit that part was fun but then it didn't take me long before I withdrew back to my fortress of solitude, Two years ago he moved from Lagos to Abeokuta.
He rented an apartment and was living alone, he has no friends in Abk, so he doesn't go out much, recently During one of our chit-chats, he said it is just now he realized the benefit of not going out and not keeping many friends, that it helps to reduce the money that goes out of his pocket and he also now have savings, that it is now that my lifestyle is making sense to him and he also want to continue living such a life.
I remember the days he lavished money, all in the name of friendship and outings, It was just too much that I would call and tell him, he would promise to change but once he got money again, he would forget all my advice.
I am glad he is now on the right track but it took him years to realize what was best for him, it was when he changed areas that he finally understood what I had been telling him, if he didn't move, he wouldn't have understand me.
How did staying indoors become a habit for me?
I grew up with nature when I was small I moved into a very rural area with my sister, there was only one other house aside from our own in the street, so we had only one neighbor, the whole street was bushy and quiet.
I grew up seeing some wild animals like crocodiles, Alligator, snakes of different types, squirrels, monkeys, and others, Not long my sister left for school and my mum came over to stay with me, so once again it was just me and mum but later my dad and other family members joined us, I have my fun as a kid studying our cocks and then, I count the days they use to lay their eggs and when they hatch it, how they suck the juice out of some of their eggs by themselves, I even had a favorite among the chicks and I watched them grow to cock, I will throw more foods to my favorite than the others and it was painful when one of my favorites was killed for us to eat, even though I told my parent to kill the other one but it was bigger.
I would walk the whole street and not meet a single soul, I love it so I was a bit nervous when I moved to the city and I had to be jamming people on the road with every step I took, it made me feel uneasy but I adapt to it later on as a human.
I realized it drains me of my energy though because I need to be very conscious of my surroundings, I do feel there are 100 eyes looking at me which drains me of my energy so I prefer staying indoors than having to bear all that
So l love being alone on the street and staying indoors as a habit but unfortunately, I can only enjoy one now which is staying indoors but being alone on the street of Lagos, I doubt that is ever going to happen.
