It would seem Goldback Inc. flew too close to the sun with their 100 Goldback. While it is a beautiful design and has been well-received, the last one will be made for the state of Idaho. The move isn't unsurprising, and here's why.
While beautiful, these 100 Goldbacks aren't cheap.
Each 100 Goldback contains 1/10oz of gold. At $800 each, that's almost double the cost of competing bullion products. Looking at findbullionprices.com, I could get a random 1/10oz gold coin for $439.08 and save $360.92, because shipping is usually free.
It makes sense why the 100 Goldback is going away with such stiff competition. The good news is the Liberty design will continue and instead be put on the 50 Goldback. While those are considerably cheaper, I still don't see myself paying for one of those. Sure, I might consider a 1 or 5 Goldback, but purely for the fun of collecting rather than any serious stacking. If you liked the Liberty design and would've bought one in a 50 Goldback, then keep your eyes peeled. I'm sure they'll be coming soon enough.
