What's up, Beer community! Responding to the call from our esteemed @detlev, today I'm sharing my participation in the #BeerSaturday challenge for week #431. Like every Saturday, when I get together with friends to have a few beers, talk, and play Splinterlands, I had the pleasant company of a hiver who shared a photo of her drink on Discord. I wasn't familiar with this community, so I'm sending this invitation to my esteemed @mirlenyjerez to join this fantastic beer challenge.

Now back to the topic of this post, today I'm bringing you more than a review, a true endurance challenge! Well for this get-together with my friends I decided to double down on the beers I was drinking, that is, I decided to have a beer that I had been wanting to compare for a while and it is this extra strong lager called Belga Star. The reason why this beer has the label "extra strong" is because of its high alcohol content: 10% that is much more than all the beers I have been trying and reviewing, even the person who sold it to me warned me about the alcohol content of this drink but I didn't hesitate and bought it.

The first thing that caught my attention was the presentation. It's not common to see 500 mL cans in Venezuela; the most I've seen is 350 mL. A beer with a similar presentation was Luxux, which I reviewed on this community previously, but with the exception that that beer had a 5.5% alcohol content. The other thing that caught my eye was the can's design. I love the red and black colors, plus the bold, bold lettering that says this beer has a high alcohol content, making it the king of beers! I decided to put it in the freezer for a moment to let it cool down and enjoy my first sips.

I used the largest glass I had, which was 455 mL, and poured it gradually. The first thing that stood out about this beer was its dark color. I assumed the opacity was due to its alcohol content. It was funny because when I shared it with my Discord friends, my dear @ineyashami thought it was concentrated sugarcane juice! I then toasted with my Discord friends and took the first sips. Initially, I found it a bit bitter, but I've tried extremely bitter drinks before, so I was used to it and gradually adapted. What was noticeable was the alcoholic effect of this drink; it was certainly refreshing, but I already realized that when I was about halfway through the drink, I was going to start to notice the ravages of this beer.

There were still 100 mL of beer left, so I started to do the math: drinking this entire can would be the equivalent of drinking five 4.5% Polar beers or ten 3.5% Polar Ice beers, 250 mL each. I didn't let those thoughts intimidate me and finished pouring the rest of the beer, almost filling the glass to the top. It's worth noting the thick taste of this beer. Over time, and with each sip, I could taste the quality of the barley, corn, and hops.

I had drunk two-thirds of the beer without any problems, but by the last third, I was starting to feel the effects of the King of Beers! But I wasn't going to let myself go down without a fight! I continued drinking the beer while dueling against my friends in Splinterlands. I was already feeling heavy eyelids and the beginnings of dizziness, but I still managed to win my battles and place third on the podium!

In short, friends, we managed to rise to the challenge posed by the King of Beers: Belga Star. I enjoyed every milliliter of this beer, although its bitterness and high alcohol content prevented me from fully savoring each of its components. However, it is certainly refreshing, so I recommend drinking it ice-cold. My final score for this beer is 7/10. 10% may be a bit excessive for tropical climates, and the idea is to have a good time with friends, so I'm sticking with the classic 5.5% lagers, which are a true delight. Atendiendo al llamado de nuestro estimado @detlev hoy les traigo mi participación en el #BeerSaturday challenge correspondiente a la semana #431. como cada sábado que me reúno con amigos de tomar unas cervezas, hablar y jugar splinterlands, en esa ocasión tuve la grata compañía de una hiver que me compartió una foto de su bebida en el discord y que no conocía esta comunidad así que desde aquí le envío esta invitación a mi estimada @mirlenyjerez para que se incorpore a este genial reto cervecero.

Ahora volviendo con el tema de este post, hoy les traigo más que una reseña, un verdadero reto de resistencia! Pues para esta reunión con mis amigos decidí doblar la apuesta con respecto a las cervezas que estaba tomando, es decir, decidí tomar una cerveza que ya tenía tiempo con ganas de comparar y es esta cerveza tipo lager extra fuerte llamada Belga Star. La razón de porque esta cerveza tiene la etiqueta de "extra fuerte" es por su alto grado alcohólico: 10% eso es mucho más que todas las cervezas que he estado probando y que he estado reseñando, incluso la persona que me la vendió me advirtió del grado que tenía esta bebida pero no lo dudé y la compré.

Los primeros elementos que me llamaron la atención fue primero la presentación, no es común ver cervezas de 500 mL en lata en Venezuela, lo máximo que he visto son de 350 mL, una cerveza de presentación similar fue la Luxux que reseñé en esta comunidad anteriormente pero con la salvedad de que esa cerveza era 5,5% de grado alcohólico. Lo otro que me llamó la atención es el diseño de la lata, me encanta los colores rojo y negro que lleva, además de tener en letras muy grandes que esta cerveza es de un elevado grado alcohólico, coronándose como rey de las cervezas! Decidí entonces dejarla en el congelador por un momento para que se enfriara y poder disfrutar los primeros sorbos de esta cerveza.

Utilicé el vaso más grande que tenía que era uno para 455 mL y procedí a servirlo gradualmente y lo primero que destacó en esta cerveza es su color tan oscuro, supuse que esa opacidad en el color se deba a su grado alcohólico. Fue gracioso porque cuando lo compartí con mis amigos de discord mi estimada @ineyashami le pareció que era jugo de caña concentrado!🤣 Entonces brindé con mis amigos de discord y procedí a dar los primeros sorbos, me pareció inicialmente un tanto amarga pero ya he probado bebidas extremadamente amargas así que ya estaba acostumbrado y poco a poco me fui adaptando. Lo que si se hacía notar era el efecto alcohólico de esta bebida, era ciertamente refrescante pero ya me daba cuenta que cuando ya fuera llegando a la mitad del trago iba a comenzar a notar los estragos de esta cerveza.

Aun faltaban 100 mL de cerveza, me puse a sacar las cuentas y tomarme esta lata completa sería el equivalente a tomarme 5 cervezas Polar de 4,5% o 10 cervezas Polar Ice de 3,5% de 250 mL. No me dejé intimidar por esos pensamientos y terminé de servir lo que quedaba de la cerveza terminando de llenar el vaso casi hasta el tope, es de destacar la sensación espesa que tenía esta cerveza, con el tiempo y los distintos sorbos pude ir notando la calidad de la cebada, el maíz y el lúpulo.

Me había bebido 2/3 de la cerveza sin problemas pero ya para el último tercio comencé a sentir los efectos del Rey de las Cervezas! Pero no me iba a dejar doblegar sin dar pelea antes! Continúe tomando la cerveza mientras estaba batiéndome en duelo contra mis amigos en Splinterlands ya estaba sintiendo los parpados pesados y el comienzo de la sensación de mareo pero aún así logre ganar mis batallas y quedar de tercero en el podio!

En resumen amigos, logramos estar a la altura del reto que nos propuso el Rey de las Cervezas: Belga Star, disfruté cada mililitro de esta cerveza aunque su amargura y alto grado alcohólico no me dejo degustar ampliamente cada uno de sus componentes pero es ciertamente refrescante por lo que recomiendo tomarla bien fría. Mi nota final para esta cerveza es un 7/10 10% puede ser un tanto excesivo para climas tropicales y la idea es pasar un buen rato con amigos, por lo que me quedo con las clásicas lager de 5,5% que son una verdadera delicia.
