Welcome, friends from Splinterlands and Hivers! It’s been quite a few weeks since I last participated in the Volt Event—that is, purchasing reward chests using ETN Voltage Points (EVP). Over the course of more than three weeks, I’ve accumulated exactly 35K EVP, which is enough for 10 "Hyper" chests. If you aren’t familiar with this event, it involves using a legendary card called "Electrofox," which serves a dual purpose: it can be used in ranked play and also within the Lands system. That’s where I currently have it deployed, generating EVP as I aim to claim rewards from these chests before the event concludes. At the time I made my purchase, there were 1,800 Hyper chests still available, so I think there’s a good chance I’ll be able to pick up another 10 of them over the next three weeks.

Bienvenidos amigos de Splinterlands y Hivers! Tenía bastantes semanas sin participar en el Volt Event, es decir en la compra de los cofres de recompensa con los ETN Voltage Points (EVP). Acumule a lo largo de más de 3 semanas exactamente 35K de EVP, es decir, el equivalente a 10 cofres del tipo Hyper. Si no conoces este evento, participas en el con esta carta legendaria llamada Electrofox, que tiene una función dual: para jugar en el ranked y para usarse en Lands. Es allí donde la tengo trabajando y generando EVP actualmente, intentando de reclamar las recompensas de estos cofres antes de que termine el evento. Al momento de comprar los cofres quedaban 1800 de los Hyper cofres, así que creo que puedo tener posibilidades de comprar 10 cofres más de este tipo en las próximas 3 semanas.

So far, I haven’t pulled any skins or special foil cards from these chests. While that’s been a bit disappointing, the amount of ETN I’ve received has been substantial. I currently have half of my ETN in my Electroneum Web3 wallet, while the rest has been accumulating in-game—I’m curious to see just how much ETN I can gather by the end of this event. But let’s take a look at what rewards these 10 Hyper chests brought us!

Hasta ahora no he recibido ni skins, ni alguna carta de lámina especial de estos cofres y aunque si, ha sido decepcionante, por otro lado la cantidad de ETN que he recibido ha sido sustancial, por ahora tengo la mitad de mis ETN en mi billetera web 3 de electroneum y el resto los he acumulado dentro del juego para ver hasta cuantos ETN logro acumular en este evento. Pero veamos que recompensas nos trajo estos 10 Hyper chests.

The total yield from these chests came to over 4K ETN—a truly massive amount of these tokens. Given that their price has been rising, it’s fair to say we’re already seeing a significant return on the investment we made in the Electrofox card. More importantly, we now have a new Web3 token to help diversify our portfolio, which is fantastic—honestly, it’s something I really appreciate about the Splinterlands team. Next, we have the Glints; this is the most disappointing part—750 Glints is barely half of what I earn from a single ranked victory! They really should increase the amount of Glints awarded to make it truly worthwhile. On the bright side, we did get something very useful: 20 energy to keep us playing in ranked! This is incredibly convenient, especially under the new bracket system, where we’re now earning huge amounts of Glints—which is great, since I’m still working on collecting my reward cards from the Conclave Arcana set.

El balance de estos cofres fueron más de 4K en ETN, una enorme cantidad de estos tokens la verdad y considerando que su precio ha estado aumentando, podemos decir que ya estamos teniendo un retorno notable de la inversión que hicimos de la carta Electrofox, pero lo importante es que tenemos un nuevo token web 3 con el cual diversificar nuestro portafolio lo cual es algo extraordinario y siendo honesto es algo que celebro del equipo de Splinterlands. Luego pasamos a los glints, es la parte más triste de todo esto, 750 glints es apenas la mitad de lo que consigo por victoria en ranked! Deberían aumentar la cantidad de estos glints para que realmente valga la pena. Por último si tenemos algo de gran utilidad: 20 de energía para mantenernos jugando en ranked! Esto es muy conveniente porque bajo el nuevo esquema de brackets, ahora recibimos enormes cantidades de glints y como todavía estoy completando mis cartas rewards del set Conclave Arcana.

We also picked up a couple of Foundations chests, but I’m going to hold off on opening those until I can open them alongside the reward chests I earn from completing daily quests in the Frontier format. That wraps up our participation in the Volt Event. We didn’t land any skins or special foil cards—in fact, I’m starting to suspect those NFTs might already be sold out—but my main goal is to accumulate as much ETN as possible before the event ends.

También obtuvimos un par de cofres Foundations, pero prefiero dejarlo para abrirlos junto a los cofres de recompensa que recibo al completar las misiones diarias del formato Frontier. Con esto dejamos hasta aquí nuestra participación en el Volt Event, no conseguimos skins o lámina especial, de hecho ya estoy comenzando a pensar que ya esos nft ya se agotaron, pero me interesa bastante acumular la mayor cantidad de ETN posibles, antes de que termine este evento.

In the middle of October, I purchased my second Legendary Archon—something I mentioned in a post last week. As the new season kicked off and I began fighting for the top spots, I faced an opponent using this Archon, and I was absolutely blown away! At first, I thought this ability—paired with this Archon—was just another way to take risks by relying on unfavorable abilities; in this case, Soul Siphon. But then I realized that, with the right cards, this Archon is unstoppable—even if your opponent manages to shield themselves against your attacks.

A mediados de este mes de octubre compre mi segundo arconte legendario y que les había compartido en esta publicación de la semana pasada. Pues al comenzar la temporada y estar luchando desde el primer momento por los primeros puestos, enfrenté una alineación con este arconte y me pareció alucinante! Al principio pensé que esta habilidad con este arconte no sería más que otra forma arriesgarte con una estrategia basada en habilidades desfavorables, en este caso Soul Siphon. Pero luego pude ver que con las cartas adecuadas este arconte es imparable, incluso si tu oponente puede blindarse contra tus ataques.

Let’s take a closer look at how this ability works. "Soul Siphon" allows the unit possessing it to self-revive with 100% of its current health (up to 50% of its maximum health), while simultaneously clearing negative status effects and restoring positive ones. This effect can trigger as long as there are units in your lineup that are not suffering from "fatigue." Each time the unit returns to battle, a "fatigue" status is applied to one of your allied units—a process that continues until every unit in your lineup has become fatigued.

Pero veamos que es esta habilidad, Soul Siphon le permite a la unidad que la tenga, auto revivir con el 100% de vida y el 50% de la vida máxima, eliminando los efectos negativos, y restituyendo los positivos. Esto se activa siempre y cuando haya unidades sin fatiga en tu alineación porque se puede revivir mientras tengas unidades en tu alineación sin fatiga pues con cada retorno a la batalla una unidad aliada le es aplicada fatiga, hasta que todas ellas queden con la habilidad de fatiga.

On its own, this Archon cannot secure victory regardless of which units you place in your lineup. Consequently, a strategy involving this card requires a significant investment—starting with the unit that must occupy the front line: "Moribund Arrowbait." I rushed to purchase both the Archon and this card because I suspect their prices might rise, much like those of "Calamity" and "Dragonlord Mancer." In this instance, it’s because this card possesses a "lineage tribute" ability, which boosts the stats of your units. It was already quite expensive when I bought it, but once you see how it performs in battle, you’ll understand why.

Por sí solo este arconte no podría lograr la victoria usando cualquier tipo de unidad en la alineación. De allí que la estrategia con esta carta requiere de una inversión importante, empezando por la siguiente unidad que debe estar en la primera línea de batalla: Moribund Arrowbait. La razón por la que me apresuré en comprar al arconte y esta carta es que porque presumo que pueden subir de precio, tal como Calamity y Dragonlord Mancer. En este caso, es porque esta carta tiene la habilidad tributo de linaje y potenciará las estadísticas de nuestras unidades. Al comprarla ya era bastante cara pero cuando veas como funciona esta carta en batalla entenderás porque.

Next, the second step was to acquire cards that share a lineage with Moribund Arrowbait; the best options are Mystic Mudbinder and Thunderous Herald. Both are Magic/Ulund cards, meaning they benefit from the "lineage tribute" ability. Another advantage is that they are common cards and therefore not very expensive—in fact, I even bought one of them in its gold-foil version.

Ahora, el segundo paso fue hacerme con las cartas que guardaran linaje con Moribund Arrowbait, las mejores opciones son Mystic Mudbinder y Thunderous Herald. Ambas son cartas mágicas y Ulund es decir que se beneficiarán de la habilidad tributo de linaje, y la otra ventaja es que tienen es que son cartas comunes y no son tan costosas, de hecho una de ellas la compré en su versión de lámina dorada.

Here, we can see how our strategy works: the idea is for Moribund Arrowbait to be revived as many times as necessary to boost the magic damage of the units in the second row. Of course, there is a catch—all our units will end up with the "Fatigue" ability, turning the battle into something of a game of chance. However, the key is that most of our offensive units benefit from the Lineage Tribute. With five or more units receiving this buff, it’s highly unlikely that none of them will attack; and since their damage output is quite high, having just one or two units land an attack is enough to deal significant damage to your opponent. That is exactly what we see in this battle against the ever-formidable Yodin Zaku.

Aquí podemos ver como funciona nuestra estrategia, la idea es que Moribund Arrowbait reviva todas las veces necesarias para potenciar el daño mágicos de las unidades en la segunda fila, por supuesto esta el detalle de que todas nuestras unidades terminarían con la habilidad fatiga y la batalla en nuestro caso sería prácticamente un juego de probabilidades pero lo importante es que la mayoría de las unidades ofensivas se beneficien del tributo de linaje. Así, teniendo 5 o más unidades con el buff, en cada turno es poco probable que ninguna de las unidades no ataque y como el daño que hacen es bastante alto, basta con que uno o dos de tus unidades ataquen para hacerle un gran daño a tu oponente. Eso es lo que podemos apreciar en esta batalla contra el siempre difícil Yodin Zaku.

In this second battle, we have a much larger mana cap, allowing us to field units with higher mana costs. This is where I realized the need to acquire the rare promotional card, Arcane Skinwalker. Initially, I hadn't planned on upgrading this card, settling for just having it at level 1. However, having an additional unit with the "shapeshifter" ability—in this case, an Archon—proves decisive. Together with Portia Nyr, they become two extra offensive units that can benefit from the lineage tribute, bringing the total to four out of five units capable of boosting their stats.

En esta segunda batalla tenemos un margen de mana mucho más amplio, por lo que podemos usar unidades de mayor coste de mana. Y fue allí donde me di cuenta de la necesidad de comprar la carta rara promocional Arcane Skinwalker, en un principio no quería upgradear esta carta y solo me conformé con tenerla en nivel 1. Pero tener una carta extra con la habilidad cambia formas con este arconte, es decisivo porque junto a Portia Nyr se convierten en 2 unidades extra ofensivas que pueden beneficiarse del tributo de linaje, tendríamos así 4 de 5 unidades que pueden potenciar sus estadísticas.

Thus, this battle demonstrates just how effective this strategy can be; even units resistant to magic attacks struggle to hold their ground against the sheer volume of buffs provided by the "Lineage Tribute." The greatest risk here comes from units with the "Dispel" ability, which can strip away our damage buffs and dismantle our entire strategy. Similarly, the "Rest" ultimate ability can block the activation of "Syphon Soul," so it is crucial to keep both of these abilities in mind when heading into a battle against this Archon.

Así, en esta batalla podemos ver lo eficaz que puede llegar a ser esta estrategia, porque incluso con unidades resistentes al ataque mágico aguantan poco con la cantidad de buff que el tributo de linaje llega a conferir. El mayor riesgo aquí era la unidad con la habilidad dispel, que puede quitarnos el buff de daño y desarmar nuestra estrategia. De igual forma la habilidad final rest puede bloquear la activación de Syphon Soul, así que es importante considerar estas 2 habilidades cuando vayas a enfrentar una batalla con este arconte.

Ultimately, my performance in the brawls resulted in 5 wins out of 6 battles—3 of which were secured using the new Archon from the Escalation set. In short, this Archon is quite fun to play. So far, I have used it exclusively with Conclave Arcana cards; I still need to experiment with combinations involving "wild" cards and explore which Ulund cards might synergize well with this strategy.

Al final, nuestro desempeño en las brawls terminó en 5 victorias de 6 batallas, 3 de las cuales las gané con el arconte nuevo de Escalation. En resumen, este arconte es bastante divertido de usar. Por ahora solo lo he usado exclusivamente con cartas Conclave Arcana, todavía me falta probar combinaciones con las cartas wild y ver que cartas Ulund pueda aprovechar con esta estrategia.

Finally, we used our merits to purchase 4 Gladius cases. While we likely won't be able to upgrade any cards just yet, we’re continuing to accumulate resources to eventually take them to the next level.

Well, friends, that wraps up my update on the "Volt Event" and the acquisition of my new "Escalation" Archon—which, I must say, is already my favorite! We already know which one is coming next, but the final one remains a complete mystery—though all signs point to it being a dragon-themed Archon. The big question is: what kind of modifiers will it have? We’ll find out soon enough!
